The Truist Championship in Philadelphia, starts a compelling PGA Tour schedule...TEE TIMES

PGA Tour : The Truist Championship Leaderboard

It is would not be for the first time in recent days I have been asked, what the heck is the Truist Championship and who the heck plays cricket in Philadelphia ?!!

Fair questions. The Truist Championship is subbing for the old Wells Fargo at Quail Hollow this week, because it is hosting the PGA Championship next week is your first answer, and Truist Financial Corporation is the 2019 amalgamation of BB&T and Sun Trust banks, with a HQ in Charlotte NC, who have decided to host this one off event.

Philadelphia Cricket Club: Wissahickon

The Philadelphia Cricket Club is about as prestigious an old country club as you can find in the USA, was founded in 1854 when new immigrants were looking for a place to play cricket.

Today it is an expensive, exclusive full blown country club offering members golf, tennis, platform tennis, pickleball, squash, swimming, fitness, trap shooting, cricket, ladies bridge and more. So you can imagine the clientele in a city whose sports are renown for hard hitting, tough bruising giants playing for the Eagles, 76ers and the Flyers.

The golf course is a 1920's design by member AW Tillinghast now known as Wissahickon which opened in 1922, and was completely restored in 2013. His ashes were scattered in the creek that crosses the 18th green.

It is short by today's standards, has hosted the 2015 PGA National Championship and the Constellation Seniors event in 2016.

The reason all the top pros are here this week is it has inherited the $20,000,000 signature status, and begins a prestigious 7 week schedule with 3 signature events and 2 majors. which includes our RBC Canadian Open June 5-8 TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley.
