PGA Championship 2025 Leaderboard Results
With a three shot lead after a brilliant Saturday 65, that turned out to be crucial, and with the tour's dominant player in 2025, and 4 time champion at Quail Hollow, Rory McIlroy out of contention as were many other top stars, Sunday was expected to be another walk in the park for Scottie Scheffler.
Two weeks before, on his home course TPC Craig Ranch at the Byron Nelson, he beat a weak field by 8 shots with a record -31, a stress free warm up for this week at a much tougher Quail Hollow.
However as he has on some events so far this year, he stumbled out of the gate with 3 bogey's on his front nine, for +2 37, while Jon Rahm was catching him with a bogey free, 1 birdie 34, a 3 shot swing that had Scheffler ahead by a shot.
Commentators were shocked that Scheffler could not find his swing, only hitting 2 fairways, missing everything to the left.
While both made birdies at the 10th, Rahm made another birdie at11, both players now tied .
Scheffler got his nose in front with birdies at 14, 15 to Rahm's pars, and the Championship was on the line with 3 holes to play.
However Rahm, explicably closed with a bogey at 16, a double at 17 and another double at 18, both in the water, dropping 5 shots in 3 holes for +2 73, a sad ending to his day. Rahm finished in a group at -4
The unexpected collapse, left the door open for Scheffler who simply finished par, par bogey E 71 for an easy 5 shot win worth $3,420,000
After all was said and done, 69 68 65 71 -11 was his winning score, T2 was at -6, Harris English (65), Bryson DeChambeau (70) and Davis Riley (72). Jhonattan Vegas who led after 36 holes T5 with JP Poston and Taylor Pendrith.
"I knew it was going to be a challenging day, finishing off a Major Championship is always difficult. Did a good job staying patient on the front nine, I didn't have my best stuff and I kept myself in it, then I stepped up on the back nine and had a really good nine holes."
Canadians Taylor Pendrith T5 60 70 72 68 -5 and Corey Conners 73 68 74 67 -2 T19 had very solid weeks
Quail Hollow was soaked by 4" of rain leading into play this year, and that combined with players not being allowed to play lift clean and place when the fairways were soft and muddy, provided another very stern test for this star studded field, many I have listed, did not even make the cut.
It was Scheffler's15th win, 3 of them majors and after his sensational 2024 he retains his world #1 ranking after 6 years on tour.
