PGA Tour : ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic ..Leaderboard
With 36 holes in the books, it's been a continued welcome return to form so far for Dundas, Ontario's Mac Hughes at this alternative PGA Tour event, the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic.
With his putting woes behind him he has posted 63 then 69 on a much windier Friday for -10 T1 with a little known 31 year old Columbian, Cristobal Del Solar, 65 67, owgr 303, 184th Fed Ex Cup in just his 14th start.
Mac who turned pro in 2013, is currently 47th Fed Ex Cup and owgr #56 with those 2 career wins, 2016 RSM Classic and 2022 Sanderson Farms. However this year with 4 MC, including last week at the Byron Nelson 65 73, he has shown recent improvement with 10th at Texas Children's Houston Open at beginning of April then T3 at RBC Heritage, with 8 rounds in the 60's.
He is already in the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow next week and remember that is a $20,000,000+ purse !
It has also been a good week for his Canadian colleague, Ben Silverman who plays every time he is allowed, to try and keep his card. So far T9 67 68 -7.
Adam Svensson T34 69 69 -4
This field is all jammed up behind them with 18 hopeful players within 4 shots.
Some like Nick Watney who hasn't won in 13 years, 66 67 -9, and world traveller from NZ, Ryan Fox trying to hold on to his PGA Tour membership before being sent back to DP World Tour T9 65 70 -7 are just two examples of what opportunity these rank and file alternative events present.
For Mac, he would move well into the top 50, that opens all the doors for at least 2 years, and a strong position for the Presidents Cup team he missed out on last time in Montreal.
Lots to play for and his beloved Leafs lead the big bad Panthers 2-1 in their Stanley Cup 2nd round playoffs !
His game plan ? "more of the same, just keep putting myself in good positions and see where that gets me when we add them all up"
Lots at stake all around !!
