PGA Tour : CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2025...Leaderboard
There are many, veteran golf scribes included, that can find regular weekly pro golf tournaments boring to watch, slow action, especially in this day and age of instant gratification.
However when it gets enthralling is when the human element combined with an Agatha Christie whodunnit story line, throw in some National pride, a David vs Goliath plot, a hero vs a villain, gets involved.
Enter the Ryder, Solheim, Presidents, Walker Cups and suddenly you have 3 days of the most compelling sport anywhere.
Enter Tom Watson and Stewart Cink at Troon in 2009, Tiger and Bob May 2000 PGA, or Hale Irwin and Mike Donald 1990 US Open at Medinah for examples.
However this week the CJ Cup Byron Nelson is one of those void of any such drama, with Scottie Scheffler playing on his home course, TPC Craig Ranch where he competed as a 14 year old, playing like he's at a stress free Monday morning match with his pals, already -23 through 54 holes (61 63 66), 8 shots clear of a rank and file week with 18 to play on Sunday.
This ends the story for this week, unless you are upset that he is skipping next week's $20,000,000 signature event in Philadelphia, before returning to play the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. He has a busy schedule ahead, and of course money hasn't been an issue for the Scheffler's for a while,,,
