Eagle finish Aaron Cockerill T10 at Austrian Alpine Open... live scoreboard

DP World Tour : Austrian Alpine Open Leaderboard

With a great drive splitting the 18th fairway and superb 215 yard approach to 17 feet,  Aaron Cockerill finally got a putt to drop today, this one for an eagle 3, after missing several makeable birdie putts away, it was one of those rounds.

With rounds of 66 69 67 he is in the clubhouse T10 at -8.

Aaron has not had a great year thus far, he has dropped to 360owgr and to 120th in the Race to Dubai, however  after a week at US Qualifying at Walton Heath 72 72 E T53, he returned with an opening 65 T1 at the Soudal Open in Belgium, he best start of the season. However once again he did not capitalize on it albeit in some very difficult weather, finishing 72 72 71 T31.

A strong finish on Sunday should go a long way to getting the year headed in the right direction with the meat of the DP World Tour season ahead.

The leader wrapping up his 3rd round is German, Marcel Schneider at -15. He has held the lead all week.

Nick Taylor T1 at Memorial....36 hole results

PGA Tour  : Memorial Tournament Leaderboard

Canada's Nick Taylor thrives on hard golf courses, Muirfield Village is one of those this week.

Andrew Redington/Getty Images

Heading into the weekend where the wet, lush rough has Muirfield Village GC playing what Justin Thomas called "playing like a US Open" Taylor's 69 68 -7 is tied with in form Ben Griffin 65 72 -7 for the lead.

Alone in 3rd with 70 69 -5 is shot making lefty Akshay Bhatia.

None of them are getting much attention from the American media especially with the elephant in the room called Scottie Scheffler 4th 70 70 -4.

However I will point to Sam Burns, Shane Lowry and Jordan Spieth all at -3, as well as Tom Hoge, Russell Henley, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele bunched at -2 and those 11 are the only players under par after 36 holes.

The weather story will be the cool wind NW up to 30kph for Saturday, adding to the test facing these guys playing for $20,000,000 and all the perks that go with it, and the US Open at Oakmont just a fortnight away.

Other Canadians

Mac Hughes T12 73 71 E

Taylor Pendrith T18 73 72

Corey Conners T27 73 73 +2

Adam Hadwin T50 76 73 +5

The cut fell at +5, so 14 players are gone for the weekend along with Brian Campbell who had to WD.

Schneider on top in Austria, 36 hole Wrap.. full results

DP World Tour : Austrian Alpine Open Leaderboard

Marcel Schneider remains the man to catch at the halfway stage of the Austrian Alpine Open presented by SalzburgerLand after posting a flawless 66 on Friday to keep his two-shot lead.

MS

The German started the day two clear of the chasing pack after Thursday's opening 63 and made a patient start to the second round early in the morning, opening with seven straight pars before picking up back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth to turn in 33.

And Schneider made further gains on the 14th and 18th to set the clubhouse target at -11.

He said: "My plan was to continue what I did yesterday, and that worked out well. "I have to say, off the tee I wasn’t as strong as yesterday. But I managed well on the holes where I missed the fairways to come out with par, so I didn’t drop a shot. Overall, super happy.

"It’s great having the support. Playing close to home is always nice. I love being in Austria as well. I like that."

None of the later starters were able to catch the 35-year-old at the top, with countryman Nicolai von Dellingshausen his nearest challenger on -9

England's Callum Tarren was alone in third another shot further back -8 after carding seven birdies and no bogeys in his 63.

New Zealand's Daniel Hillier finished with an eagle on the 18th to sit alongside South African Jayden Schaper on -7.

edit **** Canada's Aaron Cockerill is in a huge group at -5 pairing an opening 66 -4 with a -1 69 for T11 -5

With all the recent rain, Muirfield Village GC has US Open thick rough, playing very tough. Scottie Scheffler is still not driving the ball accurately with only 6 fairways hit, so he was in it a lot, but declared himself "pleased with -2 70 around this course in this condition"

Marcel Schneider leads, Aaron Cockerill T4, Austrian Alpine Open... rd1 results

DP World Tour : Austrian Alpine Open by Salzburgerland Leaderboard

Marcel Schneider stormed to the top of the Austrian Alpine Open presented by SalzburgerLand leaderboard after making a spectacular hole-out eagle in his first-round 63.

Marcel Schneider leads by two after first round in Austria

German Schneider started from the tenth tee on Thursday afternoon and reeled off five birdies on his front nine to join countryman and early clubhouse leader Nicolai von Dellingshausen at the summit on -5.

The 35-year-old then holed his approach shot from the fairway at the second for a remarkable eagle 2, using the backstop to the right of the hole brilliantly, to hit the front on his own.

And although he dropped his first shot of the day at the sixth, he got it back with a close-range birdie on the ninth to lead by two shots on -7.

Early starter Von Dellingshausen was Schneider's nearest challenger on -5 after making six birdies and a bogey in his 65.

Schneider said: "I started quite well, obviously. I was in control - on the greens, off the greens, long shots off the tee. So overall I'm actually super happy. On the back nine which I played first, I just hit solid shots and gave myself a lot of opportunities. I wasn't in trouble once so I think that's the key for shooting low.

At the second hole, off the tee I thought I was a touch left but it ended up in the fairway and then it was a perfect yardage for my 60 degree wedge.

"Lucky enough it finished in the hole."

edit*** Canada's Aaron Cockerill was out early, posting 6 birdies, with 2 bogey's for -4 66 T4 heading into Friday.

The tour's dominant player so far this year with wins at Pebble Beach, The PLAYERS and the Masters including the Grand Slam advised an understanding host, he likes to play the week before a major, so will play the RBC Canadian Open where he is the two time champion instead.

There are two events apart from all the others where the pros feel extra pressure to show up. Arnie is gone now, but he always leaned on all the top boys to play at Bay Hill, long before the $20,000,000 events existed.

Jack does the same at his Muirfield Village, letters sent out privately if he heard that a top ranked player had not entered, back in the day. He has said he has no issue with Rory's absence, having had to say no many times in his career.

DP World Tour returns to beautiful Austria this week....full TEE TIMES

DP World Tour : Austrian Alpine Open by Salzburgerland. .Tee Times

edit**** Salzburgerland is one of the states in Austria.

The DP World Tour returns to Austria this week as the European Swing continues with the Austrian Alpine Open presented by SalzburgerLand.

After a four-year absence from the schedule, the DP World Tour is back in Austria. Established in 1990, this is the 23rd edition of Austria’s national open. Thirty-five years ago, the tournament was won by European great Bernhard Langer in a play-off against American Lanny Wadkins. That was the first of three consecutive editions held at GC Gut Altentann, which is once again the venue this week.

Gut Altentann Golf Club

Changes in venue occurred during this time, including on its return to the DP World Tour at Fontana GC in 2006. Diamond CC, near Vienna, staged it most recently for ten successive editions from 2010 to 2021.

In 2018, it was known as the Shot Clock Masters with every player timed on every shot, with a one-shot penalty added to their score if they took longer than their allocated time.

A Jack Nicklaus masterpiece

This week sees the DP World Tour return to Gut Altentann Golf Club – opened in 1989 – for the first time since 1992. Located in Henndorf am Wallersee near Salzburg, the 18-hole golf course was the first in continental Europe to be designed by 18-time Major Championship winner Jack Nicklaus.

With a philosophy that golf should be a game of precision and strategy, those principles were incorporated into the design. A recent redesign has further aimed to restore Nicklaus’ original vision while meeting modern standards.

Measuring over 6,900 yards in length from the championship tees, the course features contoured bunker complexes and huge greens throughout. Water is also a big factor, coming into play on more than half of the holes.

Ryder Cup duo Donald & Molinari tee it up

Donald Molinari-1711695378

With now less than four months away from the Ryder Cup, two of Team Europe’s principal architects of their victory two years ago in Italy are in action. Luke Donald, who will lead the European team for the second time at Bethpage later this year, is joined by Edoardo Molinari, who will again assume his duties as a Vice Captain in New York.

For former World Number One Donald, this will be his debut on Austrian soil. “I'm looking forward to playing in Austria and experiencing the country for the first time,” said Donald. “It's always a privilege to play in front of new fans, and I'm looking forward to feeling their support as we approach the Ryder Cup in New York.

Leading home hopes on show

One of the great aspects of national opens on Tour is the opportunity for homegrown stars to take the acclaim of their home fans. The leading Austrian star in action is Bernd Wiesberger, with the eight-time DP World Tour winner shouldering the majority of expectation as he bids to win national open for the second time, having done so in 2012. The 2021 Ryder Cup player’s last start on Tour came at the Hainan Classic when he finished in a tie for 11th. Countryman Matthias Schwab, an ambassador for presenting partner SalzburgerLand, has twice finished runner-up on the DP World Tour and boasts PGA TOUR experience.

They are among 14 Austrians – six of whom are amateurs - set to feature, with Lukas Nemecz teeing it up after an encouraging start to his season on the HotelPlanner Tour.

edit*** The leading  ranked Austrian is Sepp Straka who is playing this week at the Memorial Tournament on the PGA Tour. He has won there 4 times including twice this year and has risen to #9 in the world rankings

The state of play in the Swing

This is the third counting event on the European Swing, the fourth of five Global Swings on the 2025 Race to Dubai. Both the champion of the Turkish Airlines Open – Martin Couvra – and the winner of last week’s Soudal Open – Kristoffer Reitan – are in the field this week, with Reitan the man to catch at the top of the standings.

The winner of the Swing will earn entry into every event in Phase Two of the Race to Dubai - the Back 9 - along with a US$200,000 bonus, while there is also an exemption into the Genesis Scottish Open at play. Events in The Netherlands, Italy and Germany are to follow next month, with the U.S. Open not counting towards the Swing Rankings.

edit *** Canada's lone Canadian on tour, Aaron Cockerill is in action again this week

From prison to the Majors, Angel Cabrera wins Senior PGA... Final results

PGA Tour Champions : Senior PGA Championship  Results

Angel Cabrera was at a low point in his life. "I didn't listen to anybody, I did what I wanted, when I wanted, to who I wanted. I embarrassed myself, my family and everybody in my golf world"

Drinking heavily, smoking packs of cigarettes' a day, he was charged with spousal abuse, assault and threatening with two of his girlfriends and spent 30 months in prison in Argentina.

The time halted and radically altered his behavior, becoming an ideal prisoner, trying to get even his grade 6 education. He is taking medication that makes him sick to his stomach if he takes a drink.

Last week, with a whole new outlook on life, now married in 2023 and father of their first child, his son Felipe, his enormous ability to play, now with a clear head led to him winning two PGA Tour Champions majors.

Last Monday he won the rain delayed Regions Tradition in Alabama then this weekend the PGA Seniors PGA Championship at Congressional, edging Padraig Harrington who blew a 2 shot lead through 14 holes, making a double bogey at the 15th and a bogey at the 18th.

Speaking through an interpreter he said " I feel very emotional inside especially after everything I have been through. I thought I was going to fail, especially sitting without touching a club for a while. I have since been working very very hard, and feel all the hard work pays off, and this is what I am having right now."

There is an old Scottish saying, "Yu never appreciate yer health til ya lose it"...The same can be said for your job, or in Cabrera's case.. your golf.

Kristoffer Reitan

Kristoffer Reitan won his first DP World Tour title after holding his nerve in a play-off following a stunning course-record 62.

Reitan started the day nine shots behind overnight leader Ewen Ferguson and teed off almost three hours before the last group out.

His Rinkven International GC course record proved enough to join Scotland's Ferguson and Dutchman Darius van Driel in a play-off.

All three made par on the first trip back up the 18th before the trio all struck their approaches significantly closer when replaying the last for a second time.

After Ferguson and Van Driel missed, Reitan holed from 15 feet to cap a remarkable day which he started in 23rd place.

Reitan birdied the first before dropping a shot at the third and at that stage there was little warning of what was to come, but a further nine birdies saw him join Ferguson on -13.

“I don't know what to say, its been a dream of mine since I was a little kid,” said Reitan. “I keep thinking back to a few years ago when I was considering stopping playing because I didn't find it enjoyable any more, didn't see progress, and to be able to turn it around the way I have been doing the last couple of years has been amazing - to seal it with victory here is ridiculous.

“[Winning] wasn't even on my mind. I just wanted to play a good round of golf, been working hard on trying to stick to my process recently. Obviously today I felt like it was a little bit my day and that was evident at the end... I couldn't be more thrilled.”

Day 3: Soudal Open 2025, Ferguson keeps lead...54 hole results..

DP World Tour : Soudal Open 2025 Leaderboard Weather

Young Scot Ewen Ferguson will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Soudal Open after defying wet conditions in Antwerp to post an impressive 69.

Ewen Ferguson moves into halfway lead

Ferguson began the day with a three shot advantage and, aside from being briefly caught by John Parry around the turn, was in control for most of the day at a rain-swept Rinkven International GC.

A -13 total sees Ferguson go into the final round two clear of Parry, who carded a 67, with Dutchman Darius van Driel third on -9 after signing for a 69.

edit ***The early wave had no rain and little wind so Jordan Smith was bogey free 64 to T4 -8 along with Oliver Lindell 65 and Frederic Lacroix 65

Ferguson birdied the third from 23 feet and extended his run of bogey-free holes this week to 41 before dropping a shot at the sixth after finding a bunker with his approach.

"To be honest with you my range session was awful, it was so cold, my hands were freezing and I was hardly finding the middle of the face," said Ferguson.

"I was thinking it was going to be a long day - which it was - but I think when you get out there and feel the kind of vibe off the people around you, and I was playing with Marco [Penge] who's a good friend, and just trying to enjoy it even though the weather was bad.

"I just hung in there really. It wasn't pretty, I was teeing my ball down, squishing drivers trying to find the fairway. Nothing pretty to watch but Saturday, just keep yourself in there.

"I love grinding making a par, it's a nice feeling. I've done so well today just keeping my head on a day where you could really let it go.

Parry also admitted it had been an attritional day.

"It was tough," he said. "There were a lot more four irons into the greens today - which wasn’t really the case over the first two days - but I felt like I did the hard part well, which was getting from tee to green. That made the rest of the day a bit easier."

edit *** Canada's Aaron Cockerill had to battle the elements as well as he scrambled his way to a 2nd +1 72 after an opening bogey free 65, he will begin Sunday well back T22 at -4. Today he posted a double and 2 bogey's against 3 birdies.

More breezy showery weather in store for the final round. Click on the weather link above for full details.

When I tell you that lesser known rank and filers, Ben Griffin and German Matti Schmid are leading at -11, you'll know why. Heck, Rickie Fowler who has barely won since he got married is making headlines, and he is 5 shots behind after his 64 -6 T7.

With round 2 in the books at the Soudal Open, young Scot, Ewen Ferguson has taken a commanding lead with bogey free rounds of 67 64 -11, three shots clear of recent winner from England Marco Penge 66 6 -8.

Aaron Cockerill after his best opening round of the year a bogey free -6 65 had a rude start to his round today when he hooked his drive into the trees. He took a provisional and after some confusion on Shot Link appeared to take an unplayable, then a penalty drop finally resulting in a double bogey 6.

However that was changed in the scorers tent to a bogey 5. I can only assume he did not take an unplayable.

DP World Tour : Soudal Open Leaderboard

Joost Luiten is hoping to cash in on his recent good form after taking a share of the first-round lead at the Soudal Open.

The Dutchman shot a six-under-par 65 at Rinkven International GC to sit alongside Spain's Angel Ayora and Canada's Aaron Cockerill.

American Sean Crocker, South African Thriston Lawrence and England's Marco Penge sit a shot further back in a share of fourth on five under.

“I hit some good iron shots and had some solid wedge play,” said Luiten. “On 18, the first, and then a great five on the second hole - picked up three birdies early on, which really gets the round going.

“That’s what you want, especially on a course like this. Every birdie gives you a bit of peace of mind out there. It was nice to go through the turn and keep making birdies.

“It definitely helps that I can sleep at home this week. It feels like a home week for me. It’s just over the border — I used to live here in Belgium for three years, so I know this place pretty well. It’s nice to be close to home and playing courses that are familiar.

“I hope that plays in my favour. We’ve got a little boy at home, so it’s really special to see him, put him to bed every night, and sleep in my own bed. Nothing beats that. So yeah, let’s hope it works out.”

Aaron Cockerill

Cockerill's progress was more serene as he carded six birdies in a flawless round.

“I played very well today, stress free,” he said. “I don't know if I had a par putt much longer than three feet: a lot of greens, a lot of fairways. I like this course. I've had decent results here last year, so I'm happy to be back.

“I put in a new driver yesterday and hit a ton of fairways today and it's closer than the results have been. So today was very satisfying. No bogeys. It was an enjoyable day.”
