You can click on my link above for the complete 2025 list of the Masters field. Here are some random musings, as this storied major gets underway..

The Masters is the first major of the year and is being played for the 89th time

* With Monday practice rounds being rained out, this is likely all the rain you will see this week !

* It is not the toughest major to win, the Open is by far, and with only 96 players including ceremonial past champs like Freddie, Jose Maria, Bernhard, Weirsy, Zach, Vijay, Bubba, Phil all still taking up spots without any chance of winning it may be the easiest.

* Scottie Scheffler will defend this week, While he hasn't won yet this year, he's close and while he may not win it again this year you know he will be in contention at some point. Don't you just wish he had a little Lee Trevino or Chi Chi Rodriquez  in his blood ? Pity the best player in the game has such a lame personality.

* Back from jail, Angel Cabrera went out and won the Champions Tour in Boca Raton over the weekend 68 66 71 -11 and this old chain smoker from Argentina won it in 2009, then runner up to Adam Scott in 2013. He also won the US Open in 2007.

* An early look at the weather predicts very little chance of rain after the early hours overnight into Thursday. However it will be cool for sure around 20*c at best which is high 60'sF (Touque weather for the Yanks !) colder for the early waves. There will be wind, but none listed above19kph.

* Corey Conners 8th Masters, 3 top 10's 2020/21/22 and has 4 top 10's so far this year.

* Nick Taylor  3rd Masters, won the Sony early this year, has not been in any form recently.

* Taylor Pendrith   Masters debut, 3 top 15 finishes this year

 * Mike Weir  26th Masters, won it all in 2003 is all you need to know !!

* the Twins : Nicolai and Rasmus Hojgaard are at the forefront of a golden era in Danish golf, led by the godfather Thomas Bjorn. For both to make it all the way to Augusta at the same time is the storybook stuff.

* Laurie Canter from England, wins my tip of the cap. He made the mistake, like many of jumping to LIV for the money, but soon found out it was all about money come 1st or last, but nothing else. So he packed it in, got permission to re join the DP World Tour where he has been their best player in 2025 thus far, good enough to realize his dream, and make his Masters debut..

* Dustin Johnson the world former #1 has an unbelievable resume, winning the Masters in 2020 with a record -20, he also won the US Open in 2016 and dominated the game during his time as world #1. However it gave it all up, his status, his legend, to join LIV where he has just disappeared.  I must admit I have no time for this guy, he is as boring as his game is great.

* It is both good and bad news for the Masters that there are a whole whack of grinders this year who one way or another have made it in. The "Good" is that they have found a way under Masters invitation regulations, bad is because it makes it the weakest field in the majors.

Joe Highsmith, Dan Berger, Brian Campbell, Rafael Campos, Nicolas Echavarria, Austin Eckroat, Max Greyserman, Stephan Jaeger, Michael Kim, Patton Kizzire, Adam Schenk, Davis Thompson and there are a few more who are hardly majors worthy.

more to follow as the week goes on..
