Type 1 diabetic Scott Verplank shot his second straight -6 66 on Saturday to take the second-round lead at -12 in the PGA Tour Champions’ Tucson Conquistadores Classic.
He hasn't won yet on this senior tour, but despite his daily battles with diabetes, he is a five-time PGA Tour champion. He is injury prone and has fought a series of them and the resulting operations, in fact he had a cortisone shot in his shoulder last week.
Good news for Canadian golf fans as Stephen Ames is T4 only 4 shots back at -8 after a 67, while Rod Spittle is at E 72.
Jim Carter (63)and Wes Short Jr. (65) are T2 a stroke back of Verplank at -11.
