Lydia Ko celebrated her 18th birthday, defending her title at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic, this time beating Morgan Pressel on the second playoff hole for her seventh career LPGA Tour victory after firing a closing -2 70.
Pressel missed a 15-footer at the 18th in regulation for the win, closing with a 72. She also just missed a 10-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole for the win again, then pulled an 8-foot birdie putt on the next hole giving Ko the opening she needed to make her putt and win. It was the first time she had the lead all day !
For me this was a bad loss for Pressel, whose last victory was in 2008. Consider she had a two-shot lead with four holes to play, made bogeys at 16 and 17, and then failed to make that birdie on the 18th
Brooke Henderson holed a bunker shot for eagle on the par-5 14th and she did have a 25-foot birdie putt on the final hole to join the playoff which she couldn't make and she finished with a +2 74, disappointed I'm sure to finish 3rd, just a shot behind at -7, but at just 17 years of age this result will fill her with confidence, she beat a lot of great players...
