Jordan Spieth has 4 birdies on his card today as I write through 12 holes, he has the 2 par fives to go at 13 and 15 and is currently at -12 leading by 5 shots over Charlie Hoffman who is -2 today playing his front nine, -7 total.


Big Ernie has battled well all day, made bogey at 10 and 11 but birdied 13 and 15 and is at E, -5 total after a 72.


All Spieth's contenders after round 1 are either standing still or going backwards. Ernie is E 72, Jason Day +1 thru 9, Justin Rose +1 thru 2, Russell Henley +2 thru 7, Sergio Garcia +4 thru 9...


Now Tiger is -2 today heading into Amen Corner, Rory -1 and Phil -2 are off at 1.48 and they best make a move to stay in touch with young Mr Spieth who has just birdied #13 to get to -13.


Mike Weir is +4 today thru 7, but Corey Connors is -3 today thru 7.


Finally if you need a good cry, Ben Crenshaw has just played his 1st hole so around 5.30pm he will walk up the 18th for the last time after 44 years, 2 wins and a million memories.. His long time caddy Carl Jackson will walk the 18th with him, he is recovering from cancer treatment and his brother will carry Ben's bag during the round..
