Who will survive the Atlanta Athletic Club on Sunday..

I can't remember when there was so much inexperience in contention in a major on Sunday as there is today, but there are 12 players within 5 shots of the lead, and another 7 including Luke Donald and Lee Westwood are 6 back. 31 of the top 35 have not won a major.

Adam Scott in the group T8 at -2 says " you can make up 6 shots in the final 4 holes"
and I think whoever handles this Atlanta Athletic Club's brutal final 4 holes will emerge from the tight pack with that huge Wannamaker trophy. For what it's worth Jason Dufner has played them the best so far at 3 under..

Remember the final 4 holes start with that 260 yard par 3 15th and end with the 510 yard par 4 18th with the long approach, all over water.

Remember as well, this is a par 70 which is crucial when you are trying to make up shots to catch the leader, simply because  there aren't that many available.

So the leaders Brenden Steele (-7) is playing his 1st major alongside Jason Dufner who at 34 hasn't even won on tour yet, and they are followed by Keegan Bradley who won earlier in the year and along with Steele is being advised / coached by Phil Mickelson.

47 year old diabetic Scott Verplank (-5) has never really contended for a major and the highest ranked player at #5 in the world Steve Stricker (-4) is probably the favourite of this leading pack.

David Toms shot 65 yesterday and is at -2 and would be a fairytale for sure as he won here 10 years ago with that famous hole in one at 15..

There are a ton of story lines with Tiger out and Rory blowing up to a 74 yesterday, and while this leaderboard will not inspire many casual golf fans, and certainly not many ratings driven TV executives, it should be an exciting finish with a playoff very possible.

The weather forecast is hot and humid with isolated thunderstorms expected.

Here is the T10 leaderboard (click on PGA tour for a full leaderboard)
