Don't expect much from our Canucks at this week's CN Canadian Womens Open

Were you wondering what chance we have of watching our first Canadian winner since Jocelyne Bourassa in 1973 at our women's national championship, the CN Canadian Women's Open at the Hillsdale Golf & Country Club ,Mirabel, Quebec, Par 72,Yardage - 6604.. ??

I wish I had good news for you..

There are 17 Canucks in the field by my count, the world's top 50 are here and Michelle Wie won last year in Winnipeg. We have 6 women playing on the LPGA tour regularly, and folks the best finish I can report is Alena Sharp's T9...

While the LPGA tour is certainly dominated by International players, Canada is not among them.. click here for this week's Rolex Rankings http://www.lpga.com/content/RolexRankings-8-22-2011.pdf

Our highest ranked player, Alena Sharp is 138th

Of the top 20... Yani Tseng is from Taipei at #1, Suzann Pettersen of Norway is #2, there are 6 Koreans, 3 Japanese, 1 Aussie, 1 Swede and 7 from the USA

Gory details..
Lorie Kane has 0 T10's in 8 starts, her best finish T23, ranked 227
Lisa Meldrum has 0 T10's in 7 starts, has MC in 5 of them, ranked 400
Alena Sharp 1 T10 in 13 starts (T9 at Sybase Match Play)has MC 5 times, ranked 138
Jessica Shepley 0 T10's in 6 starts, her best finish T53...ranked 335
Samantha Richdale 0 T10's in 7 starts, has MC 5/7 ranked 341
Stephanie Sherlock 0 T10's in 9 starts, has MC 5/9, ranked 344
Adrienne White has only 1 start last week where she MC..ranked 569

It was not my intention here to critique each player and to be honest while I follow them every week, until we get some of these women turning their glittering amateur careers at home into success on the pro circuit, there is not much to say although Lorie won a Legends Tour event by shooting 65 at the Wendy’s Charity Challenge in Michigan, two weeks ago..

Over the years on our Fairways golf show I have talked with our resident coach Sean Foley who has developed so many of our fine amateur women at his Core Golf Academy and the fact of the matter is we don't have a huge pool of girls playing golf to choose from.

So, best to cheer them on, and enjoy what is always one of the best events on the LPGA schedule, it all starts on Thursday and I will be covering it and all the rest with you right here..
