Play suspended at the Barclay's

With the heavy fore winds and rain of Hurricane Irene moving up the east coast of the States, play has been suspended in New Jersey at the Barclay's with half the field still in the clubhouse and none of the morning flight past the 14th hole.

Normally wind doesn't warrant a suspension of play unless players cannot mark their balls on the green without them blowing away however the PGA Tour has a comprehensive weather forecast system, and in their opinion the saftey of all concerned could not be guaranteed so play was suspended around noon.

PGA tour officials have told reporters they will not allow play to resume until player and fan safety is not at risk, which could mean quite a while when you look at the weather map and see the havoc being caused from Florida right up the coast as Irene pounds the Bahamas. It is scheduled to hit New York state/city late on Saturday.
