It's now 5 hours into the first round at Congressional at noon est..
There was some steady light rain this morning with lots more and t'storms in the forecast.
Remember par is good at this long hard course. Only 11 of 78 on course right now are under par and scoring conditions are ideal.. However as I tweeted this morning today's pins are tough and tucked by opening round standards..
As I said yesterday 7 par 4's are over 460 yds long, the 18th 525yd par 4 !!
Luke Donald is fighting back. He started on 10 with Westwood and Kaymer and birdied 10 and 11 but faltered playing his last 7 holes on the front 6 in +6. He has made a birdie already coming in and is at +3...the front nine is where you have to score here..
This is a tough track folks and the rain this morning has thickened the rough, but most noticeably guys were constantly left with 5 -10 footers that had big breaks and are extremely slick..
On the other hand the fairways are wider than any US Open I can remember, and the first cut is very manageable..
Bubba Watson has some army fatigues on today. Ryo Ishikawa has now got an oversized Rickie Fowler type hat on... Stevie Williams is on the bag for Adam Scott this week in case you hadn't heard..
