Ok what do Mark Foster, Maurice Bembridge and Lee Westwood have in common..?? Lot's of things now that I think of it, but mainly they are all pro golfers from a town called Worksop in the English midlands on the edge of Nottingham Forest, where funnily enough the local eleven are called Nottingham Forest...
Anyhow, Foster who unlike Westwood hasn't won in 8 years shot 66, -14 total today and takes a 2 shot lead into Sunday, with a chance to get into the Open Championship
Question is will that be enough. In a group at -14 are back in form Sergio Garcia with the best round of the day,64 and Retief Goosen, 67. Also Italian sensation Matteo Manessaro,66 is only 4 back.
A top-four finish could give Garcia one of two Open places up for grabs off a mini-money list that has been running on The European Tour for the past month.
As for Swede Henrik Stenson 73, who shared top spot overnight, he put two balls in the water on the long 11th and three-putted for a quadruple bogey 9 before finishing with 3 straight birdies to trail by 5..
Martin Kaymer 72, is 8 shots back.
By the way the 18th is a 568yd par 5. Having hacked my way around Coppinwood recently, and having had several swipes with my hybrid 3 something with very mixed results, none good, it is simply a joy to watch these guys hit driver, then stand up and just obliterate a nicely drawn hybrid 260 yards, to a back right pin, and have it land, check, and roll gently to within 20 feet... God I have to practice..
Back to Munich..it's wide open which should make for a Sunday shoot-out, with lot's at stake
