Golf this week, June 2,2011, Graham Delaet returns from injury,

It's Jack's tournament this week, the Memorial with Mike Weir in the field, while GMac defends his title at the site of the Ryder Cup, the 20/20 course at Celtic Manor.

We also have 5 Canucks in the field at the Nationwide event in Maryland including Graham DeLaet, and 6 more on the LPGA Tour in Galaway NJ..

PGA Tour


The Memorial Tournament
Site: Dublin, Ohio.
Course: Muirfield Village Golf Club (7,352 yards, par 72).
Purse: $6.2 million. Winner's share: $1,116,000.
Canucks : Mike Weir

Defending Champion: England's Justin Rose won the first of his two 2010 PGA Tour titles, overcoming a four-shot deficit. Rickie Fowler was second, three strokes back.

Notes: Jack Nicklaus founded the event in 1976 and won the 1977 and 1984 titles. He made his last competitive appearance in the tournament in 2005 …Luke Donald is in the field. He took the No. 1 spot in the world ranking Sunday with a playoff victory over Lee Westwood in the European Tour's BMW PGA Championship. His Ryder Cup colleagues Francisco Molinari and Rory McIlroy are also playing…Phil Mickelson, who has become a part time player, is making his first start since tying for 33rd in The Players Championship. He won the Houston Open in early April for his 39th PGA Tour victory, and first since the 2010 Masters.

European Tour


Wales Open
Site: Newport, Wales.
Course: Celtic Manor Resort, The Twenty Ten Course (7,378 yards, par 71).
Purse: $2.97 million. Winner's share: $494,730.

Defending Champion: Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell closed with an 8-under 63 for a three-stroke victory over Rhys Davies. McDowell won the U.S. Open two weeks later.

Notes: Last October at Celtic Manor, this is where Europe won the Ryder Cup, beating the United States 14½-13½ when McDowell crushed Hunter Mahan's heart in the final singles match. McDowell is in the field along with Ryder Cup teammates Miguel Angel Jimenez, Ross Fisher and Peter Hanson and captain Colin Montgomerie. …John Daly is making his second straight European Tour start. He withdrew during the second round at Wentworth because of a hip injury.


LPGA


ShopRite LPGA Classic
Site: Galloway, N.J.
Course: Seaview Dolce Seaview Resort, Bay Course (6,155 yards, par 71).
Purse: $1.5 million. Winner's share: $225,000.
Canucks : Lisa Meldrum, Jessica Shepley, Lorie Kane, Samantha Richdale, Alena Sharp, Stephanie Sherlock..

Defending Champion: Ai Miyazato took the top spot in the world, winning the fourth of her five 2010 titles. The Japanese star closed with a 64 to beat M.J. Hur by two strokes.

Notes: The tournament returned to the tour last year. First played in 1986, it folded in 2006 after the previous organizers accused then-LPGA Tour commissioner Carolyn Bivens of providing three unsuitable dates for the 2007 event. Bivens resigned in July 2009 after a group of players wrote a letter to the tour's board of directors calling for her to quit. She was replaced by Michael Whan…Michelle Wie has four top-10 finishes in six starts this year. …Alexis Thompson received a sponsor exemption. The 16-year-old pro tied for 19th in the Mobile, Ala., event after taking a share of the lead into the final round. There are 6 Canucks in the field..


Nationwide Tour


Melwood Prince George's County Open
Site: College Park, Md.
Course: University of Maryland Golf Course (7,015 yards, par 71).
Purse: $600,000. Winner's share: $108,000.
Defending Champion:  Tommy Gainey won the first of his two 2010 titles, closing with a 6-under 65 for a one-stroke victory over Frank Lickliter II and Jin Park

Notes: Mathew Goggin, the winner of the season-opening Panama Championship, leads the money list with $194,440. Mulroy is second with $123,065. The final top 25 will earn 2012 PGA Tour cards. Graham Delaet finally returns after a lengthy absence to re hab a back operation

Champions Tour


Principal Charity Classic
Site: West Des Moines.
Course: Glen Oaks Country Club (6,879 yards, par 71).
Purse: $1,725,000. Winner's share: $258,750.
Canucks : Rod Spittle

Defending Champion:  Nick Price won the second of his two 2010 titles, finishing with a 4-under 67 to beat Tommy Armour III by four strokes.

Notes: Tom Lehman has three victories in eight tour starts this year. He tied for 22nd at Valhalla, closing with a 77. … Price won the Toshiba Classic in March in California for his fourth Champions Tour title.
