Scrambling Mcllroy amongst the leaders at the Players.. full scoreboard /Friday TEE TIMES

PGA Tour : Players Championship Tee Times

With the wind forecast to pick up as the week goes on at this version of the Players Championship, world #2 Rory McIlroy was the biggest name amongst the leaders to take advantage of the always dangerous TPC Sawgrass, with several others not far behind.

With this win: Rory McIlroy - DP World Tour Championship

His 7 birdie -5 67 has him in a group of five T4, behind co-leaders Lucas Glover, JJ Spaun and veteran Columbian Camilo Villegas all at -6 66. He only hit 4 fairways, but his scrambling game saved the day including a birdie 3 at the last from the pine straw in the trees off the fairway.

However there are 11 players at -4 68 including Rickie Fowler and the best player on the DP World Tour so far this year, Englishman Laurie Canter who quit the LIV to try and play his way back into the majors and Ryder Cup the legitimate way.

Looking for his 3rd straight win at this venue is world #1 Scottie Scheffler, lurking at T20 -3 69 along with 10 others.

Opinion:  With nothing but sunshine and more wind to come the course will just get firmer and faster which may well separate the men from the boys come Sunday afternoon, if not before.

Just little mistakes can result in bad numbers. Justin Thomas hit 4 shots into the water for 78, Viktor Hovland shot 80 with 3 double bogeys, Chandler Phillips set a record 3 eagles, with 4 birdies and still shot 68 with 3 bogey's and a triple.

Canadians

Adam Hadwin, Taylor Pendrith T20 -3 69

Corey Conners T47 -1 71 who drove the ball as well as ever, missed a couple of shorties, but made a few as well including a 46 footer on the island green 17th for a 2, which he gave back after a superb drive on 18, but misjudged his 137yd approach, resulting in a bogey 5 to finish.

Mac Hughes T83 +1 73

Nick Taylor T99 +2 74

Adam Svensson T112 +3 75

Ben Silverman T134 +6 78

Note> One group must return at 8.50am this morning to complete 1 hole before round 2 gets underway.
