McIlroy, Spaun playoff format, Conners T6 the Players..... live scoreboard

 PGA Tour : Players ChampionshiLeaderboard

They finally ran out of daylight on Sunday after a 4 hour weather delay saw the field return at 5.15pm with about 2 1/2 hours of daylight to finish, and finish they did, except Rory with a 68 and JJ Spaun 72 were tied for the lead at -12.

Rory McIlroy spent time off 'working on having fun'

Both will now return at 9am to decide the winner with the old 3 hole aggregate system in place. You will remember the 1995 Open at St Andrews when Constantino Rocca and a young John Daly played a 4 hole aggregate which Daly won by 5 shots when the Italian took 3 to get out of the Road hole bunker.

Format

Rory and Spaun will play 3 holes 16,17,18 to decide. If they are tied they will then play sudden death at 17 then 18 if necessary. If they are still tied then sudden death will continue at 16,17 and 18.

Needless to say this is David vs Goliath, we all know about Rory, Spaun a 34 year old journey man with 1win, who is already a winner just getting here, nothing to lose, and even if he does he'll get over $2,000,000.

Conversely should Rory lose it will be all about blowing his 3 shot lead on Sunday afternoon.

As for the rest, Tom Hoge 66, Akshay Bhatia 70, Lucas Glover 71 all T3 -10.

Then Corey Conners 71, Danny Walker 70, and Bud Cauley 74 all T6 -9.

Corey had his A game on Saturday with that memorable 66, but to his credit despite being a little loose with his driver, and missing several makeable birdie putts he birdied the 11th, 13th and par 5 16th to close with a final tally 71 71 66 71 -9.

It has been a very lucrative fortnight for this young Canadian 3rd last week at the $20,000,000 AP Invitational worth over $1.400,000 with another big payday today after the playoff worth approx. $844,000

The other Canadian Taylor Pendrith T38 69 70 73 75 -1

For all you Scottie Scheffler fans, the world #1 finished well back at T20 69 70 72 73 -4.
