Arnold Palmer Invitational...full Friday scoreboard here.
With 11 of the top 20 players missing this week it was Corey Connors and Rory McIlroy with -6 66's who took the lead after round one at this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational at his Bay Hill course in Orlando.
Connors who began at 12.46pm on the 10th tee, got off to a fast start -2 through 2 holes and -6 through 7 with an eagle 3 at the par 5 16th. He was in the lead after a birdie 4 at the par 5 6th, but took a 3 putt bogey at the 9th, his last hole to fall back into the tie with Rory.
McIlroy called his 66 his "best round of the year" his five straight birdies from the 2nd - 6th the highlight of his day. He also played the back nine first, in the early wave.
Bryson DeChambeau playing in the group behind Rory had the biggest of the masked 5000 fans allowed in, and he responded with a -5 67.
The early wave got most of the breeze, only 6 broke 70, including defending champion and top seed #6 Tyrrell Hatton 77 and Frankie Molinari who has slowly been getting his game back after nearly a year off to move his family from Italy to California, shot 78.
Nick Taylor is in +1 73 and Adam Hadwin had a terrible day +7 79.

Maybe this is his week. A March win would be nice!
ReplyDeleteThe eagle at 16 was well deserved, he played better than 69, 14 pars,a lone bogey 2 birdies and the eagle. He's on track, 1 strokes gained from the tee for example... The putter is the achilles heel.. so far so good..
