Weir looking for his first win in 13 years leads Cologuard Classic into Sunday... full leaderboard / Tee times

Cologuard Classic  Leaderboard Final round tee times

His last pro win in 13 years ago was the Fry's Electronic Open in 2007 and with rounds of 66 67 Mike Weir leads the Cologuard Classic at -13 by two shots. He has made 233 starts since then, 194 PGA Tour 19 Korn Ferry, 11 Champions Tour and 9 European Tour.

He's only made 2 bogey's so far this week as he looks to become the 4th Canadian to win on this Senior circuit after Stephen Ames, Rod Spittle and Dave Barr. Tucson National plays to par 73 for the Champions Tour.

He is right on top of his game as he said after his round " I really can't remember a time hitting so many shots close to the hole, so many have been to tap in or near tap in range. My wedges have been very good, even my mid irons have been good and I'm driving it good.

He made one birdie in a front nine of 35, then made 7 birdies and a bogey in 8 holes on the back, before the bogey at the 18th.

He's hit 25/28 fairways and 31/36 GIR. He leads the field with 15 birdies.

Today he's off the 1st tee at 12.01 with Sutherland and Scott Parel.

Kevin Sutherland is second at -11. Stephen Ames T42 E 75 71.

The return to a regular schedule on the Champions Tour has been just what Mike Weir needed at this time in his storied career. He has 4 top 10 finishes in 11 starts, 6 in the top 25, including a 2nd and a T4 with a scoring average of 69.5.

Stephen Ames shot +2 75 T59th.

Weir leads Scott Verplank (67 -6) by a shot and he tees off at  12.01 local time today with Verplank and Paul Goydos (68 -5)

Thursday Tour summary, live scoreboards / Friday tee times..

Gainbridge LPGA leaderboard\ tee times here.

A perfect Florida day at Lake Nona GC saw former world #1 Lydia Ko playing her home course posting at -7 65 to take a narrow lead after round 1. Her neighbour Annika Sorenstam returned to play after 13 years and had a solid +3 75, marred by a triple bogey on the 5th.

Brooke Henderson (8.11am) had a solid start T29, -1 71, Alena Sharp T41 E 72, and Jaclyn Lee (11.52am) T77 +3 75. The cut is predicted to fall at +2. A sad story, Yani Tseng from Taiwan was by far the best player on the LPGA Tour 2011-2013 when she became the youngest person to win 5 major championships. Since then she has completely lost her game, her confidence and she opened with the worst score +9 81 with a triple, 2 doubles and a bogey on a front nine of 44.

Taylor Pendrith (Kevin Light)

Taylor Pendrith (1.02pm) made the most of his promotion this week from the Korn Ferry tour, where he has been starring, with a bogey free - 6 66 just a shot off the lead at the Puerto Rico Open. He is currently 2nd on the Korn Ferry money list.

Four Canadians in Puerto Rico Open.... live scoreboard

Puerto Rico Open live scoreboard TEE TIMES

Play is already underway down in Puerto Rico at this PGA Tour alternate event to the WGC in Bradenton. It has none of the top 60 and has a lot of names you haven't heard from in a while, like Robert Allenby, Ricky Barnes and Omar Uresti, all looking to catch lightning in a bottle, because this week has full PGA Tour status and perks.

Ian Poulter has decided to show up, maybe indicative that it's a Ryder Cup year..

Taylor Pendrith

Roger Sloan, Michael Gligic, David Hearn and Taylor Pendrith are in the field, Pendrith promoted from the Korn Ferry Tour this week.

Otherwise it's the same rules, top 60 guys, huge purse $8m, no cut.

Weather: Perfect Florida day, sunny, warm, light wind for the entire week.....expect low scoring.

Mac Hughes is the lone Canadian teeing off at 12.04 with Scotland's Rob MacIntyre and Aussie Lucas Herbert.

Henderson, Sharp, Lee return to play at Gainbridge LPGA.....TEE TIMES

 Gainbridge LPGA leaderboard

It seems like the LPGA has been off forever, but this week they return to Orlando Florida for the second edition of the Gainsbridge LPGA.

It's Annika Sorenstam's home course, Lake Nona G&CC, and she is grabbing all the headlines as she returns to action for the first time in 13 years. Now I'm sure if she went out and was competitive, and the old juices were flowing,  she might play a few more, but the reality is after playing in the Diamond Resorts TOC pro-am recently, she realized if she was going to win the LPGA Senior Open later this year, she needs more rounds using live ammunition.

Brooke Henderson (12.36pm), Alena Sharp (11.52am) are playing as is Jaclyn Lee (7.27am) back after recovering from injury.

Their are 120 players in the field, including #1 Jin Young Ko who won the Tour title last year and the money list title in just 4 events, after staying at home in Korea during much of COVID.

Homa outlasts the rest to win Genesis Invitational ..Top 20 for Nick Taylor. final scoreboard

Genesis Invitational final scoreboard  here.

Max Homa topped the list of " I could've" stories at the Genesis Invitational, eventually beating another good guy Tony Finau who closed with a brilliant -7 64 in a playoff for his 2nd PGA Tour win. He finished T7 last week at Pebble Beach and shot -5 66 on Sunday

Finau who was 22/22 making putts inside 10 feet missed one from 7' to win on the first playoff hole, then another from 10 feet on the second to extend play to finish 2nd again his 21st top 5 since 2016, still looking for that 2nd win since the Puerto Rico Open in 2015. Coulda!

Homa, a native of Los Angeles who grew up dreaming of winning at Riviera missed a 3 footer of his own at the 72nd, with his idol, Tiger waiting greenside to shake his hand.

Sam Burns finished 3rd at -11 matched the 36 hole record with 64 66 -12 for a 5 shot lead closed with a -2 69 but his +3 74 in the wind delayed 3rd round cost him dearly, letting the rest of the chasing pack in. Woulda. !

Tyler McCumber was right in contention with 67 68 -7, but the wind took it's toll on Saturday with a 77, then a 74 to close finished his Coulda !

Dustin Johnson who was within 2 shots of the lead at one point over the weekend just wasn't as sharp as he has been with a 71 72 weekend T8. Coulda!

Homa joins last week's winner Daniel Berger on an impressive list of Jewish golfers including Corey Pavin and Bruce Fleisher, Jonathan Kaye, Skip Kendall, Morgan Pressel and Ben Silverman from Canada amongst others.

Canadians : Nick Taylor finished T20 after his -2 69, while Adam Hadwin T26th with a final round - 70 and Mac hughes T32 at -1 after a closing -2 69. Hughes is the only Canadian in the WGC event at the Concession, in Florida.

Round 3 resumes at 945am EST Sunday, Genesis Invitational.... full scoreboard

 Genesis Invitational leaderboard here.

The wind finally died down on Saturday after a 4 hour delay at the Riviera GC and the field resumed play until darkness .So play will resume this morning at 945am est to complete round 3 before beginning the final round at 11.30am est.

Weather for Sunday:  the high winds have blown through but there will be a breeze up to 16mph predicted for the early starts at 6.45am (local) diminishing come mid afternoon under clear sunny skies.

The leader: Sam Burns in my opinion got a heckuva break with the wind when he was scheduled to start in the worst of it with 40mph gusts, the horn blew and he went and chilled for 4 hours, until play resumed.

He was steady with 8 pars, just 1 bogey going out, he birdied the 10th to get back to -12, however he did make 2 late bogey's at 12 & 13 in the gathering gloom before play was halted to reduce his lead to just 2.

Sunday morning: Burns will lead 43 players out early to finish round 3 at -10 on the par 3 14th tee. Matthew Fitzpatrick has one hole to play, he is at -8, then three players all at -7 including Dustin Johnson who has also played 13 holes.

Canadians: I thought Mac Hughes got the worst deal having to play 8 holes in the worst of the wind. To his credit he played them in E. However the 4 hour break changed things, with 4 bogey's, just 1 birdie on the back nine for a +3 74. He starts today T39 +1.

Nick Taylor (71) and Adam Hadwin (70) are T25 -1. They both only played a couple of holes before play was halted, so got a better deal than Mackenzie.

Dustin Johnson

I just have a feeling that Dustin Johnson at -7 with 5 holes to play this morning before beginning his final round is who I'd have my money on.

He won recently in Saudi Arabia before skipping Pebble Beach, and at world #1 is right on top of is game. He says he just has to "drive the ball in the fairway a bit better" over these last 23 holes to be in with a chance.

Play suspended at Riviera early in round 3 due to high winds.... full leaderboard

Genesis Invitational Round 3 leaderboard here

*****Play has been suspended due to high winds at 1.18pm EST***

With winds gusting at 40mph, blowing golf balls off the greens officials have had to suspend play early in round 3 at this Genesis Invitational. The entire field except for the final group were on the course but the earliest pairings had reached the 8th. This may be a break for leader Sam Burns who hasn't had to endure any of it, and won't tee off until officials decide the course is fair to play on.

Golfers, caddies and tournament staff retire due to high winds, round 3 Genesis Invitational

Riviera is 2 miles from the Pacific. It has been playing firm and fast due to a dry winter in Los Angeles, and although it has been nothing but ideal weather with clear blue skies this week, the wind got up to 15mph this morning and continued to build.

The last suspension of play on the PGA Tour due to high wind was the 2015 Open at St Andrews where Zack Johnson won in a playoff.

Mac Hughes got the worst of it, he was E today through 8. Nick Taylor #1 through 6 and Adam Hadwin +1 through 3.

The grounds crew are pouring water on the greens to try and slow them down to help play resume.

Sam Burns taming tough Riviera, Hughes leads 3 Canucks into weekend at Genesis Invitational... full scoreboard

 Genesis Invitational full leaderboard here

In the first 2 rounds Riviera is playing so tough only 10 players have shot in the 60's twice. Guys like Rory, Bubba, Justin, Bryson, and Sergio have all missed the cut, for McIlroy it snapped his no cut streak at 25.

Through all that 24 year old Sam Burns hasn't missed a beat with rounds of 64 66 and that my friends has him 5 shots clear of the pack at -12 going into play today after tying the 36 hole scoring record with Mike Weir among others.

1303038819

Sam Burns

So that's the target that Dustin Johnson 68 67 leads a group of 4 players all on -7 trying to close the gap on the young man from LSU. For those asking me, Jordan Spieth is T6 68 68 -6

Canadians: Three of four made the cut which fell at E, with Corey Connors 72 71 just missing at +1. Mac Hughes is T28 68 71 -2, Nick Taylor T40 72 69 -1 and Adam Hadwin T56 71 71 E, none in contention, but then who is with Burns at -12.

Inevitably big leads on Friday night get whittled away, so it's really up to Burns who only took one year to graduate from the Korn Ferry tour and is quietly confident that he belongs in this company.

We'll see, the fantastic sunny calm weather is forecast to continue all weekend, so Riviera as fast and firm as it's ever been will not be an easy course to catch up on.

Hughes leads Canadians flirting with the cut in round 2 at Genesis Invitational.. full scoreboard

 Genesis Invitational Friday leaderboard here

The Canadian contingent was doing alright most of round one at this Genesis Invitational, Mac Hughes led things off with an eagle 3 on his first hole, settling eventually for -2 69 just 2 shots off the lead, Adam Hadwin E 71, Nick Taylor and Corey Connors +1 72.

However late in an ideal day for scoring Sam Burns posted -7 64 and is now at -9 early in his 2nd round which moves the cut to E.

That puts all of the Canadians needing solid rounds today to make sure they are around for the weekend.

Riviera is playing fast and dry, the rough isn't as penal as usual, but the tricky greens are firm and quick which was why the clubhouse lead was -4 for a long time.

The forecast is great for the week, sunny, light wind, temperatures in the mid 60's once the sun warms the Los Angeles day up.

Notables: Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth -3 68, Rory McIlroy +2 73, Adam Scott -2 69, Jon Rahm -1 70, Bubba Watson E 71, Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas +4 75,

Berger caps off a rousing finish at AT&T Pebble Beach... final scoreboard

 Pebble Beach final scoreboard here

You don't always need superstars to make for a great game/match. You need the usual culprits, a close game, exciting action, talented athletes, drama, and a cliff hanger finish.

While the top 10 players took this week off , Sunday's AT&T Pebble Beach no Pro Am had all of that capped by two stout metal woods into the par 5 18th, and a well read 20 foot eagle putt by Daniel Berger to seal the deal with a -7 65 -18 total, for his 4th PGA Tour win.

That was good enough to top a spirited charge by Maverick McNealy (66) who ensured Berger needed a birdie on 18 to win, thus the cliff hanger finish, Patrick Cantlay (68), and for a long while Jordan Spieth (70) who only hit 4 fairways in his first 15.

My pick, Paul Casey was in a group T5 68, -14, so in his last 3 starts 1st, T12, T5 to swell the family bank account. He is taking this week off.

Nick Taylor in defence of his title ended up T37, 69 71 72 72 -4.

Spieth is getting a lot of praise for his top 4 finishes over the last two weeks, as his confidence is back coursing through his veins, but he is taking some criticism as well. He has only had two top ten finishes since he last played at this event, and I will say he will have to become a much better player off the tee to get back to being in contention week in and week out.

He was 110th driving accuracy again this week, but was 6th tee to green, a tribute to his iron play. However the rough at Pebble Beach was not a dominant feature. As veteran South African player and long time commentator Tony Johnstone said " sooner or later his poor driving will catch up with him"

He is in the very strong field this week at Riviera with DJ, Rory, Rahm, Thomas etal back in action, and the rough there is usually penal, although I haven't seen the course yet.

Nick Taylor, Corey Connors, Mac Hughes and Adam Hadwin are in the field as well, with David Hearn and Michael Gligic as alternatives.

A big pack chasing Spieth for the title at the Pebble Beach non Pro Am.... full scoreboard

Pebble Beach non Pro Am leaderboard here

It was just windy enough to keep the scores from going low at Pebble Beach, and in the end Jordan Spieth turned an ordinary round around with a stroke of good luck when his 2nd at the par 4 16th from 165 yards spun right into the cup for an eagle 2, resulting in -1 71 and a -13 total.

You need  a share of good luck on the weeks when you win, Spieth has been getting his fair share the last 2 weeks, so today he is 2 shots ahead a pack of 12 within 4 shots, 5 of them at -11 including an excruciatingly slow Daniel Berger who drove it OB on the 18th leading to a double bogey and a 72.

My pick Paul Casey also got lucky when his tee shot at the famous 18th bumbled it's way down onto the rocks, but actually came to rest on a flat lie so he could chip it back onto the fairway. His -1 71 sees him in the group at -10.

Nick Taylor won't successfully defend his title, he had 2 birdies on his front nine, 2 bogey's on the back for E 72 and at -4 he's T37, too far back to contend.

Today will be another cool one on the Monterey Peninsula with a little less wind from NNW than yesterday, but no rain.

Last week Spieth was in a share of the lead but fell right out of contention on Sunday when he didn't make the putts he had been all week, but still he is knocking at the door again which is a big improvement since he lost his confidence and his game during the last 3 years.

He's looking for his 2nd win here in 5 years, it's a big ask, someone in the pack behind him will go low, get a couple of breaks, we'll see if this nice young Texan keeps getting his share, or at least enough to hold on and win.

Spieth has 36 hole lead, Taylor the lone Canadian..AT&T Pebble Beach.... full scoreboard

 AT&T Pebble Beach leaderboard here

There will be a stiff wind from the NW blowing this afternoon at Pebble Beach with a high of 13*c predicted, so you'd think scoring will be at a premium.

Golf's a funny game, after his last two rounds of 61 62, Patrick Cantlay lost his first tee shot at Spyglass yesterday then struggled all day to +1 73 to fall back T4 -9.

Playing with confidence is everything in golf, Paul Casey having won in Dubai and finishing 12th in Saudi Arabia is doing just that, he chipped in twice yesterday on his way to -5 67 for a T4 -9 total. He was 2nd in 2019 here but won the Pro-Am.

Another guy buoyed with confidence after 4 years in the wilderness is grabbing all the headlines. Now married and 27 Jordan Spieth continues his fine play from Phoenix last week, with -67 at Spyglass sees him in the lead at -12, a shot up on Daniel Berger at -11. He's been getting the breaks again this week, but driving it straighter after being near last in that category recently.

Canadians: Nick Taylor survived a couple of late bogey's, shot -1 71 at Spyglass and at -4 is T25. Roger Sloan 74 71, David Hearn 73 74 and Michael Gligic 75 74 missed the cut.

Phil Mickelson put 2 shots into the Pacific at the 18th, took a 9 on his way to 80. Rickie Fowler 72 75 has also headed home.

Spieth has the clubhouse lead AT&T Pebble Beach.... live scoreboard

AT&T Pebble Beach non Pro-Am,, live scoring here

5pm Eastern here in chilly Toronto, I say chilly for my long suffering pals in Regina where it is absolutely frigid at -50*c at times, and that story of the Polar Vortex grips our country one way or another...

So we tune in to CBS coverage of the stunning Monterey Peninsula for the Pebble Beach non Pro Am..turn down the sound of Nick Faldo and Terry Gannon getting paid a fortune to watch TV, just like you and me..and enjoy the pictures of the wealthy Americans who have bags of money to live at one of America's most expensive strips of real estate..

The early lead sees Jordan Spieth in the clubhouse with a -7 65 at Pebble in easy conditions then a decent -5 67 at Spyglass Hill today for a -12 total with the whole late wave to check in..

The present cut is at -1 so Nick Taylor defending his title 69 71 -4 T22 will play the weekend at least 8 shots back while Roger Sloan, Michael Gligic and David Hearn look like they need other plans,

Taylor opens with 69 defending his title at AT&T Pebble Beach.. full scoreboard

AT&T Pebble Beach full leaderboard here

On a day of low scoring at Spyglass Hill and in particular Pebble Beach, three of golf's bright young stars, Patrick Cantlay who shot a 61 in his last round, tied the course record -10 62 took a 2 shot lead over a tall gangly 19 year old American of Indian descent Akshay Bhatia -8 64 and Sweden's Henrik Norlander -8 64. Bhatia who turned pro right out of high school hit all 18 greens

Over a third of the field scored in the 60's on the two courses in ideal conditions with Spyglass playing 2 shots tougher. Jordan Spieth's 65 at Pebble was still 3 shots off the pace. Rain fell overnight and will be around on and off on Saturday.

Canadians: The defending champion Nick Taylor opened with an eagle at the second on his way to T37 -3 69. David Hearn was at Spyglass Hill with +1 73 T97, Roger Sloan joined him +2 74 T117 and Michael Gligic struggled to +3 75 at Pebble T135.

Nick Taylor (File Photo by Jeff Gross/Getty Images)

I've been following Paul Casey's sojourn through the European Tour's desert swing where he won in Dubai and he has continued his globe trotting, flying here this week and opening with T22 -4 68 at Spyglass so he gets Pebble Beach in soft conditions today.

They are only using 2 courses instead of 3, dropping Monterey since there are no Amateurs this year. It is a pretty weak field all things considered, the highest ranked player at #11 is Patrick Cantlay. The world's top 10 did not show up and the European Tour is off for two weeks.
