Stephen Ames was sharing the lead on -9-under when darkness ended play early in the second round of the Senior British Open on Friday, and he returned early this morning to compete his round with a par -3 69.
He began play on a wild windy Saturday at St. Andrews in the lead and has been caught at -9 by Kirk Triplett early in their 3rd rounds.
On Friday, Spain's Miguel Jimenez fired a -5 67 -9 for a total of 135, one better than American pair Jeff Sluman (68) and Kirk Triplett (71), and defending champion Bernhard Langer (69), they are all on course as I write.
Watch for Tom Watson in this bad weather. He shot his age yesterday, -4 68 and he is at -7. Remember he has won 5 Open championships and 3 more Senior Open championships and has seen and done it all on these hallowed links. He is enormously patient amongst all his other talents, and that will stand him in good stead over this blustery Scottish weekend.
Incidently, knowing Stephen as we all do, he is not a big fan of cold wet conditions, so he will really have to buckle down, as the first two rounds have been played in the same balmy summer weather that has burnt out all the UK's links courses.
