Robert Rock leads in windless conditions at the Scottish Open

European Tour Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open leaderboard http://www.europeantour.com/europeantour/season=2018/tournamentid=2018058/leaderboard/index.html#/leaderboard

After 2 record setting rounds in strangely calm, sunny warm conditions at this year's Scottish Open in Gullane, England's Robert Rock, one of the games few players who has eschewed many sponsor's offers to wear a hat and who spends as much time coaching as he does playing, is the leader with improbable rounds of 63 64 -13

His 63 set a course record until Scotland's Connor Syme shot -8 62, then Japan's Hideto Hanihara shot -9 61. Gullane is not this easy, but two windless days will leave any links course defenseless.

Rock sounds very realistic about his chances of winning this week.
"I generally have three days of feeling great and one iffy one. I hope this was the iffy one; it might not be, but I'm used to that sort of scenario happening over four days.
If I play another two good rounds, I shouldn't be too far away. But if some guys shoot, I don't know, same sort of scores, they will be tough to catch."

He is 2 clear of his fellow Englishman Tyrrell Hatton (64 65) and Sweden's Jens Dantorp (65 64) both -11, while Eddie Pepperell (67 63 -10) and Rickie Fowler (64 66 -10) are T4 with Matt Fitzpatrick (68 66) who is making a run this morning with 4 birdies in his opening 5 holes.

I've looked at the weather forecast for the weekend and there is no rain and the wind is predicted at around 16kph. However the locals are telling all who'll listen that the sun and the heat baking this ancient course brown will lead to the wind getting up.

We all would like to see it blow, the Scottish Open or the Open Championship are not meant to be played in conditions you'd find in Miami.
