On step forward, two steps back is an old adage...It applies to Tiger's golf game these days. His opening 73, 70 were really a bit of a mirage, as you know he can't drive the ball in the fairway, but saved himself with some good scrambling and great putting. Still 70 was a step forward...Yesterday's 85 was certainly a step, no a leap back.
I'll spare you the gory details, suffice to say he wrapped up as inept a round of golf I've seen any pro play with a quadruple bogey 8 at the last... 85, thirteen over par.. dead last and this morning is scheduled to play first.. by himself unless he asks for a marker ( usually a low handicap club member) to help pace him otherwise he'll be done in under 2 hours...
The leader, Justin Rose said before the week began that he was excited to be here, loves playing the course and boy is he showing it with rounds of 68 67 66 -15 and a 3 shot lead heading into today, and isn't he rounding into form nicely as he prepares to defend his US Open title in 2 weeks.
In form Francisco Molinari, Sweden's David Lingmerth are at -12, followed by "steady eddie" Jim Furyk at -11, then 4 at -10 including defending champion Hideki Matsuyama
Graham DeLaet is at -6, Adam Hadwin -5...
Tiger's 85 got all the headlines, but Phil Mickelson shot 78 as well !!..On the bright side he stopped on his way into the grounds to buy a cup of lemonade 2 kids had set up. He paid a dollar for the fresh squeeze.. and left $100 tip !!
