Spittle right in contention for the weekend in San Francisco

On another cold, rainy day at Harding Park in SanFrancisco, Rod Spittle fired at +1 72 to stand at E T11, just 4 shots off the lead held by Fred Couples 70, Michael Allen 69 and David Frost 69 all at -4.

Rod countered 3 early bogey's with 3 birdies and once again made all pars from the 12th hole in.

Mark Calcavecchia, Jay Don Blake, Bernhard Langer and Kenny Perry were a stroke back. Calcavecchia, Blake and Langer had 68s, and Perry shot a 69. Haas was 2 under after a 72. Calc needs to move up at least two more spots on the leaderboard to have a chance at passing Tom Lehman for the season points title. Lehman had a 72 to fall four strokes behind the leaders.
