Triple bogey set back for Svensson...Scheffler leads Players Championship... leaderboard /TEE TIMES

PGA Tour : Players Championship leaderboard / Tee times here.

If you weren't watching yesterday you missed a birdie barrage at the Players Championship, unfortunately lady luck was not with Adam Svensson on this day.

Shot making specialist Tom Hoge led the way when he set the course record with -10 62.

Scottie Scheffler started round 3 two shots behind a brilliant Svensson playing in the final pairing. Both birdied the first with 3's then a portent of things to come with on the par 5 2nd.

3 shot swing : Svensson's drive slid right, stymied behind a tree, he managed out barely, hit his 3rd 200 yards up the fairway. His 80yd 4th was right over the flag, but checked on the fringe, then rolled down the embankment. He got up and down for 6.

Meanwhile Scheffler was in deep rough short of the green in 2, and he hacked it out, it landed soft and rolled down right into the hole, eagle 3. He looked at Adam in disbelief, shrugged his shoulders and laughed.

It was his day after that, playing beautifully, making all his putts for -7 65 and the lead at -14.

Adam went out in 37, 3 bogey's 2 birdies and at -8 was still right in it, with another birdie st 13 up to -9 still in the top 4.

Set back..Then came the par 4 14th that knocked Svensson out of contention. His drive slid right  again onto a hillside in the rough in a bad lie. With the ball well above his feet he advanced it 90 yards into another bad lie and had to stand in a grassy bunker for his approach which landed 30 yards away in a bunker, 4th sailed over the green, short sided from a down hill lie. He did well to get on in 5, then 2 putts for the triple bogey 7,

Adam Hadwin

His 75 sees him T14 -6, the same score as Adam Hadwin who had 5 birdies, 2 bogey's for 69. Taylor Pendrith T35 , 67 73 73 -4.

There was some spectacular shot making, the rain on Friday softened the greens and with very little wind, and some available pins, the field attacked TPC Sawgrass.

Here's how Taylor Pendrith summed it up. "The course set up was pretty easy I would say. A lot of the ins were in little bowls, easy to get to, the par 5's weren't that difficult. The weather was perfect, not much wind, it was frustrating not to capitalize on that, but I birdied 18 so lets see what happens tomorrow"

Asian Aussie Min Woo Lee will not play any better, he eagled #1 and went out in 31, only a bogey at 18 stopped him from matching Scheffler's 65. He is in the final pair today. 68 70 66 -12.

Tommy Fleetwood 65 T4 -9, Aaron Rae 65 T4 -9 with a hole in one at the 17th, Sungjae Im 64 T8 -8 with 9 birdies, and on an on it went on a day of low scoring.
