Late bogey's knock Connors out of lead at AP Invitational...full scoreboard

 PGA Tour:  AP Invitational Leaderboard

Arnold Palmer once said this: "Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated. It satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening- and it is without doubt the greatest game man ever invented"

Those words came to my mind as I watched Corey Connors yesterday at Arnie's Invitational on his beloved Bay Hill course in Orlando.

I wrote about how he played himself right into this championship with Friday's best round -6 66 T3 just 2 shots behind the leader Kurt Kitayama in the penultimate pairing.

After his first 8 holes on a less windy Saturday Corey had 3 birdies, just one bogey, tied for the lead at -8, that was the "rewarding " part of Arnie's quote.

Then he missed a 5 footer for par at 9, found a fairway bunker at 11, missed the green  at the par3 14th, missed the green at the par4 15th, and put his approach in the water at the par4 18th.

5 bogey's in 10 holes, home in 40 for +3 75, that was the "maddening" part of Arnie's quote.

At T12 -3 it knocked him off the leaderboard, beginning today 6 shots off the Kitayama lead 67 68 72 -9. The diminutive American tread water on Saturday, but just kept his lead over the approaching star studded pack

Viktor Hovland 66 -8, Scottie Scheffler 68 -8, Tyrrell Hatton 66 -7, Rory McIlroy 68 -6 just to name a few and Justin Thomas -5, Jordan Spieth -5 amongst others have him in their sights.

Adam Svensson moved up 38 spots, T19 72 73 69 -2, while Mac Hughes mediocre form this year continues T59 74 71 74 +3.

WEATHER: Sunday will dawn with the least wind of the week topping out at 8mph from W.

I expect the scoring to improve with the calm conditions and the traditional Sunday pins, so a shootout seems in order, with past champions in the chasing pack.

Corey is well back, but his form here has always been good.

We'll see if he agrees with Arnie about being " without doubt the greatest game man ever invented" after he hands in his scorecard later this evening.

Canadian Notes:

Cologuard Classic : Mike Weir T10 68 71 -5, Stephen Ames T42 72 72 E, David Moreland 73rd 75 78 +9

David Toms 68 65 -11 leads.

HSBC Women's World Championship : Brooke Henderson T48 78 71 71 68 E

Jin Young Ko won 72 65 65 69 -17 ($270,000)
