Fisher flirts with 59, Hatton wins Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

European Tour Alfred Dunhill Link Championship final leaderboard http://www.europeantour.com/europeantour/season=2017/tournamentid=2017082/leaderboard/index.html#/leaderboard

On a calm day at St Andrew's the pro's had their way with the Old Course, none more so than England's Ross Fisher, who actually missed a tiddler at the last for 60, settling for a new course record -11 61 -21 total 267.... and he didn't win !!

Tyrrell Hatton set a record of his own, he became the only player to successfully defend his title at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with rounds of 68 65 65 66 -24  as he won by 3 shots in spectacular style. He didn't make a single bogey over the 3 courses since Thursday. He has 2 wins on the European Tour and they both have happened at St Andrews !! He will move to #22 in the world.

Frenchman Victor Dubuisson had a 63 of his own to finish alone in third 74 66 68 -17.

Fisher stood on the 18th tee having struck 57 shots. His 58th finished in the Valley of Sin right in front of the flag. He chipped and ran to within 3 feet for the 59. His partners cleared, and he stepped up to tap in, and wouldn't you know it,, he missed and if you can believe it was disappointed to settle for 61 !!

When you think of everyone who has played the Old Course since Old and Young Tom Morris until today, none of the greats ever could manage 61, until Ross Fisher today.

Quite a finish, all the celebs and pros now catching a trip to Glasgow or Edinburgh where they will jet off around the world, and tonight the towns folk of St Andrew's will do what they have done for hundreds of years.. take their dogs for a walk over the Old Course and talk about yet another great week of golf... and what a wonderful week of weather they'd enjoyed.
