Spotting Dustin Johnson 10 strokes doesn't really help anyone beat him, unless you make an awful lot of birdies and he makes an awful lot of bogey's.
That's what Mac Hughes is facing this week should he have any chance. He started well on Friday, -3 through 6 holes, then stalled the rest of the way with 9 pars and 3 bogey's, out in 33, back in 37 for E 70 which moved him up ever so slightly from a 28th Fed Ex ranking to T26.
Johnson (67) and Rahm (65) who ended in a spectacular playoff last week are on top again at -13 under this convoluted Fed Ex Cup / Tour Championship scoring system, where players are rewarded for their play during the season with a staggered start, meaning top ranked Johnson began at -10 before he hit a shot. Rahm began at -8. Hughes began at E.
DJ says driving the ball in the fairway at this East Lake GC is the key, and Mac Hughes only hit 5\14 fairways which makes holding this quick greens very difficult, so he'll need to improve that today.
Rory came in at -3 and his carefree -6 64 has him at -9. He just arrived in Atlanta on Thursday after 3 days at home in Florida with wife Erica and their new baby Poppy.
