Graham DeLaet returns to action at smokey Safeway Open.. Thursday tee times..

Safeway Open Thursday tee times https://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/safeway-open/tee-times.html

I know we just talked about the golf season wrapping up at last week's Tour Championship, however the veterans amongst you know that the beat goes on, and on and on..

This is the time for what is called the 'wrap around season', really an early start to 2021, however with the COVID virus turning our world upside down, there are postponed events mixed in, like the US Open next week at Winged Foot in New York State. This week is the first of 50 tournaments for 2021 including 14 that were cancelled or postponed.

So off we go to the Napa Valley in California, where another disaster is driving thousands of people from their homes, as forest fires continue to rage out of control from Washington State and Oregon right down the west coast. The Silverado Resort North course which is about an hour north of San Francisco, was covered in an eerie orange light yesterday as smoke and ash descended from surrounding fires, however the Air Quality Index for the area around Napa Valley is at moderate, allowing the tournament to go on, for now. Parts of the course were destroyed by fires just after the 2017 tournament finished.

Canadians : Graham DeLaet has declared himself fit and ready for action and he joins David Hearn, Roger Sloan and Michael Gligic in the field, headlined by Californian Phil Mickelson.

Most of the big boys are elsewhere preparing for next week. However this is the time of year there are lots of names you probably have never heard of along with guys like Jordan Spieth, Jim Furyk, and Sergio Garcia who are playing for a variety of reasons.
