Rory McIlroy is the favourite at this magnificent Quail Hollow course in Charlotte NC. After 2 weeks off when he worked on controlling the curve on his shots he opened with a -5 67 and was cruising along well in round 2 until he made a double bogey 6 at the 8th then a bogey at 9 to finish with a -1 70, T4 -6.
He is now 5 shots behind a red hot Jason Dufner who is having a great week 68 63 -11. He is followed by Joel Dahmen 66 66, and long time Canadian Tour star Max Homa 69 63, both at -10.
Those three have opened a gap between McIlroy and the rest as they enter the weekend.
Nick Taylor 67 75 E and Adam Hadwin 73 69 E are T47.
Ben Silverman, David Hearn, Roger Sloan, Adam Svensson and Mac Hughes all missed the cut.
