He says he didn't have his "A" game but the way he's putting it barely made any difference. His 63,65 128 total is the lowest ever at at a major after 36 holes and it gives Brooks Koepka a 7 shot lead at -12, another major record.
Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott are closest to him at -5. Dustin Johnson leads a pack of 5 at -4 which includes England's Matt Wallace who put Koepka's performance into perspective, "any score under par around this set up is very good".
The cut fell at +4 and both Corey Connors 72 72 +4 made it as did Adam Hadwin 72 70 E. He is paired with Henrik Stenson today at 10.20am
Tiger didn't make the cut as he shot 73 +5 total. Others like Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm also missed the cut. Rory rallied on his back nine and he will be around for the weekend, like everyone else, well back.
Spieth who claims to have sorted out his putting woes will join Koepka in the final pairing today at 2.50pm.. Play begins at 7.50am. Spieth is looking for the career grand slam.
I believe the pack will close on Koepka as he vies to successfully defend his title and win his 4th major. The question is will he give them a chance to catch up. Another mid 60's round today will make Sunday no more than a "walk in the Bethpage park"..
