He grew up watching Tiger dominate the game and yesterday, paired with his idol and last year's player of the year Francesco Molinari, Brooks Koepka thrashed both of them by 9 shots as he posted a bogey free course record -7 63 while they both struggled to +2 72's.
So dominant was the 3 time major and defending champion he set the record without making a birdie on either of the two par 5's.
The only player close to him was Kiwi, Danny Lee who birdied his final 2 holes for a brilliant -6 64. Tommy Fleetwood flew in from hosting the British Masters in Southport, England to post a -3 67 and sits alone in 3rd.
A group of five are at -2 68 then 8 more at -1 69, including Rickie Fowler, Jason Day, Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth.
Tiger ruined 3 birdies and an eagle with 3 bogey's and 2 doubles for his 72. Rory couldn't buy a putt, making his only birdie on his final hole for his 72.
Both Canadians, Adam Hadwin and Corey Connors also scored + 72's.
