Europe leads USA halfway through the morning foursomes 3-1..
update.. the morning foursomes have finished at 2-2 with all but 1 match being very close.. Wie and Kerr won 16 &17 to edge Hjorth and Nordqvist 2&1 in the lead match, Creamer and Lincicomb down most of the match snatched a 1up win with a birdie on 18 over Stupples and Reid then Gustafson and Petterson returned the favour for the European team against Inkster and Lang. Catriona Matthew and her Spanish partner Azahara Munoz dominated Lewis and Stanford 3&2.
update the wind has gotten up for the afternoon fourballs and as it stands playing the back nine Europe leads in 3 with 1 match AS.
update they are playing so slowly, 5.5 hours to get a 4ball in is ridiculous and they are running out of light and may not finish. Gustafson and Hedwall hammered Lincicomb and Hurst 5&4 so Europe 3-2 lead. They lead 2 others and 1 is AS but the US have fought back to make closer matches than they were 40 minutes ago...
update. 1 down on 17 tee Creamer and Pressel made 2 huge putts to steal a match from Laura Davies and Melissa Reid. Sandra Gal and Catriona Matthew led Christine Kim and Ryann O'Toole all afternoon, but the Yanks continued the US comeback, won 17 and halved 18 for a half point and the Swedish duo of Pettersen and Nordqvist beat Kerr and Wie 2up
Final score Europe 4.5 USA 3.5 after day 1..
Irish note.. since Ireland hosted the Ryder Cup when Europe thrashed US 18.5-9.5 Paddy Harrington has won 3 majors while his Irish brethren from the north Rory, Graeme and Darren have won 3 more..
