Canadian bogey barrage at the windy LA Open... full leaderboard

LPGA: Dio Implant LA Open leaderboard here.

It's not often that Brooke Henderson is T116 at anytime in a golf tournament, but after a tough start to her title defence at the LA Open that's where she is, 10 shots behind the lead.

Beginning at 8.21 local time with Canadian rookie Maddie Szeryk she made an opening bogey, but bounced back with a birdie 4 at the 2nd, However a triple bogey 6 at the par 3 4th and another bogey at the 8th saw her out in +4 39. With 2 more bogey's at 11 and 12 she was in real trouble before she steadied herself with a birdie 4 at the par 5 13th and pars the rest of the way for +5 76.

On what was a breezy day she drove 13/14 fairways, hit 13/18 greens in regulation, but a season high 36 putts hurt her cause. She warned us in her press conference earlier this week " This course challenges your tee shots, your approach shots and even around the greens "

Maddie Szeryk also struggled on this tough Wilshire GC with 4 bogey's and 4 doubles +6 77 T124 while Maude Aimee Leblanc had 5 bogey's of her own with 2 birdies +3 74 T83.

Brooke and Maddie are in the late wave at 1.21pm today while Maude is early at 8.10 local time. They all will need to play better to stick around for the weekend with the early projected cut line at +2.

American Alison Lee, now 27 and still looking for her first win is the leader -5 66 with the diminutive Japanese Hataoka in a group of 3 at -4 67.

Lee who played her college golf at UCLA, said she was close to quitting pro golf all together, " It was so frustrating for me. I felt lost not knowing what I was doing wrong or right at times, golf was just a big blah !. I'm glad to see the work I've put in paying off, most of it all was mental for me."
