Spieth is mowing them down at John Deere Classic

PGA Tour John Deere Classic leaderboard http://espn.go.com/golf/leaderboard?tour=pga

There were 2 rain delays making TPC Deere Run very soft and we all know what pros do  with soft courses..Nobody did it better than Open Champion favourite Jordan Spieth... with a little luck thrown in..

Spieth torched the course with a career best -10 61 including a lucky eagle 3 at 17 after a drive into the trees which he found, then got out into the fairway, then a wedge he thought he mishit from 110 yards, which spun right back into the cup giving him a -17 total and a 2 shot lead.

He'll have to play well today to beat in form Kiwi Danny Lee who shot an equally good 62 to go with a pair of 68's -15 total.. Remember Lee beat David Hearn in a playoff to win the Greenbrier last week.

Speaking of Hearn he had his worst round in 2 weeks after going out in 33 he  had a bogey, a double and a triple in a 42 back nine +4 75 dropping him to T66, while Roger Sloan is T26 -8 after a 67 and Adam Hadwin is T40 -6 after a 70.

Shawn Stefani, Justin Thomas and Johnson Wagner are at -14.

So all eyes on Spieth today as he tries to win this event for the second time. One way or another his confidence will be high going into St Andrews on Monday, but a soft TPC Deer Run is about the polar opposite to the Old Course so his choice to play here instead of on the links at Gullane may still come back to haunt him.

Personally I think the kid is so talented it won't be the deciding factor, remember how well he handled Chambers Bay. All the odds of winning 3 majors in a row are stacked against him, that is the deciding factor for me..

Still it's going to be fun to watch.. as will this afternoon..
