Scoring soars on the afternoon wind at St Andrews

The Open Championship leaderboard http://www.theopen.com/Leaderboard#!/traditional

It's not like 1960 when the wind blew the tented village into the Firth of Forth but the breeze has stiffened and the temperature dropped this afternoon and as a result scoring average at 73.6 is 2 strokes higher than the morning wave.

Dustin Johnson and his fine -7 65 has stood up all day in the lead, Streb, Goosen, Lawrie and Day at -6 are still 2nd from the morning.

From the afternoon wave it's a different story with only Zach Johnson and Danny Willett in at -6, 66.

Justin Rose at -3 and Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuuchar and Henrik Stenson are at -2, but they all still have to deal with 16 which is averaging 4.3 and has only yielded 7 birdies all day, then of course the there is the road hole..

One of the joys of the Open is that coverage started at 145am this early morning and is still not over 12 hours later..

The weather for tomorrow is much the same as today with some rain mixed in, the most wind is expected late Friday then into Saturday...
