Why wouldn't Tiger play in the Volvo China Open ?

Before I start, I am no more aware of Tiger's day to day schedule than anyone else other than his inner circle, and therefore don't hear about all the many corporate, charity outings he performs as the most sought after person in the game of golf.

However when I heard that he would be visiting Asia from today and over this weekend, in fact he is in Shanghai today putting on a clinic as an ambassador for the sport of golf, I thought how crushed the organizers of the Volvo China Open, being played right in Shanghai must be to have him right around the corner, garnering all the media attention instead of being in their field !!

If he was going to pack his suitcases and fly all the way to China and Japan why not go a few days earlier and draw all those fans he will be inspiring to the tournament ? His trip to Asia in 2011 was wildly successful according to his media spokesmen, which must make it more difficult for the tournament organizers as well as the European Tour..

Look, nobody has done a better job of spreading the gospel of golf around the world than Tiger, it just seems to me the timing of the trip to a city that is holding an important golf tournament, struggling to draw fans in a country that is just emerging in it's interest for the game seems to be ill advised to say the least.
