Lydia Ko was getting all the headlines with her stellar play and her 18th birthday, but on Friday it was another teenager with a few records of her own, newly minted Ontario athlete of the year 17 year old Brooke Henderson who went out and set a new course record -7 65 to take a 2 shot lead into the weekend at the Swinging Skirts in San Francisco.
She is at -9 at the Lake Merced Golf Club, while defending champion Ko shot an even-par 72 to remain at -5. Na Yeon Choi is two strokes back at after a 68, while Yueer Cindy Feng of China stands in third place at -6, along wit Japan's Sakura Yokomine (67)
Henderson eagled the 14th, hitting a 3-wood approach and making a 15-foot putt. She also had six birdies in just her 10th pro event. She and her older sister, Brittany, T2 in last month’s Natural Charity Classic on the Symetra Tour which put $10,000 each in their jeans.
