Vivant Houston Open leaderboard here.
Memorial Park in the middle of Houston is what Americans call a "municipal course", anyone can play 51 weeks a year for $40.
Architect Tom Doak re-vamped it last year, leaving only 20 bunkers, but replacing them with steep, shaved grassy slopes, humps and hollows protecting each tricky green on the par 70. Throw in some thick gnarly rough around the fairways and this elite field averaged 72.2 per round.
After an opening low score of 65 by Brandt Snedeker gave him a 2 shot lead, the top of the scoreboard is all jammed up with 68's and 69"s, with a few out early today to complete their first rounds.
Canadians : Corey Connors T15 -1 69 plays at 12.15 today, Mac Hughes post E par 70 T30 and he has just begun round 2, David Hearn +3 73 plays at 11.35, and Graham DeLaet playing his way back into form after his back injury was at +6 76 as he began round 2 today.
The cut is projected at +2 on what some are calling "a relentless" course.
Notables: Dustin Johnson, Henrik Stenson, +2 72, Hideki Matsuyama, Francesco Molinari, 70, Jason Day 67, Tyrell Hatton 71..
