With the eyes of the golfing world now turned towards Augusta, Georgia for the COVID delayed 2020 Masters, Mac Hughes who will not be playing, set the course record at the Vivant Houston Open, a bogey free -7 63, moving him up 21 places to a T7 at -7.
Corey Connors who will play at the Masters, along with Mike Weir, Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin had an up and down week, finishing with -2 68 T24 -3.
Hitting the jackpot with his first PGA Tour win was Mexican Carlos Ortiz who closed with a bogey free 65 to win by 2 shots at -13. It was the first win by a Mexican in 42 years, and he held off Hideki Matsuyama and Dustin Johnson in the process, both finishing at -11. Ortiz doesn't play the Masters next week, but will play there in April for the 2021 event.
Worth mentioning Brooks Koepka who returned from injury closed with a T5 65 65 weekend heading into Augusta, and Francesco Molinari in his second tournament after a lengthy absence to move his family to California, closed with a 66.
At the Charles Schwab Cup Championship (scoreboard here ) Mike Weir T36 -2, while Stephen Ames T28 -3. Kevin Sutherland and Paul Broadhurst will continue their playoff this morning, they were stopped by darkness last night.
