It's David vs Goliaths as Corey Connors leads Tiger etal at Valspar Championship

PGA Tour Valspar Championship leaderboard https://www.pgatour.com/competition/2018/valspar-championship/leaderboard.html

I will take for granted if I may that you are familiar with the biblical story about how little David with his slingshot slew mighty Goliath and the Philistines, the message being all about good vs evil, the little guy vs the big bully, succeeding despite all odds.... all great stuff !

It's been happening recently in golf and today is another example.

Last week in Mexico City it was a slightly built Indian 21 year old Shubhankar Sharma who led the WGC Mexico Championship for 3 rounds, but on Sunday slipped away under the pressure from the Goliaths behind him, this time in the person's of Phil Mickelson and Justin Thomas, with Lefty winning.

This week it's relatively unknown Canadian playing only his 21st PGA tour event, ranked #608, Corey Connors from a little town west of Toronto called Listowel who has shot 67 69 68 -9 to lead those Goliath's this time, Tiger Woods 70  69 66 -8 and Brandt Snedeker 70 68 67 -8 and Justin Rose 70 69 66 -8.

...and there are lots of others like Patrick Reed at -6, Ryan Palmer, Adam Scott, Jimmy Walker all lurking.

Conners, who ran off 6 birdies, and saved par from the bunker on the 17th for -3 68, will play with Justin Rose today in the last group at 2pm and it will be Tiger and Snedeker again, right in front of them.

Adam Hadwin the defending champion is at -1 as play gets under way today.

It's hot in Tampa today and the breeze will be a factor, up to 16km/h this afternoon.

As I said nobody out there except for Corey Connors himself, expects him to win. However he has dreamt about this all his life and this, as it was for his friend Adam Hadwin last year, would be a life changing round of golf.

Then there is the story of David and Goliath..
