As Golf Canada tweeted yesterday "He's at it again !" after young Corey Connors continued his stellar play on this PGA Tour with an opening 9 birdie -8 64 to start play today just a shot out of the overnight lead of -9 63 held by an unknown American, Brice Garnett.
Connors led the Valspar Championship 3 weeks ago for the first 3 rounds and has made 10/11 cuts in his his rookie season.
Mike Weir 71 71 -1 is right on the projected cut line, David Hearn -3 69
Round two is well underway and Hunter Mahan, one of many former stalwarts trying to catch lightning in a bottle this week at this alternate event to the WGC, is the clubhouse leader 70 65 -9.
Scoring is low at this resort course that hosted the Web.com in past years. It has generous fairways so everyone is in play off the tee. Second shots are the key, because it's just a putting contest after that.
Names like Geoff Ogilvy 69 67 -8, Frank Lickliter -1 71, Daniel Chopra -1 71 Dickey Pride 71 70 -3 have all come to resurrect their careers.
I expect the lead to be around -13 come this evening.
