WGC Dell Technologies Match Play Championship final scoreboard https://www.pgatour.com/competition/2018/wgc-dell-technologies-match-play/leaderboard.html
Bubba Watson just crushed quiet Kevin Kisner 7&6 to win the Dell Technologies Match Play. After a week of mostly terrific golf, Kisner's game deserted him, Bubba won the first 5 holes and the match ended in a flop on the 12th green.
Don't get me wrong, I thought the most sensational golf of the week came from Watson, I've always said he's one of a few guys I'd pay to watch live and this week his shot making was at his best. More importantly as he talked about in his post match interview, "his focus was intact' all seven rounds. It's well known that Bubba's mind tends to wander, giving him an "I don't care" demeanour at times.
Bubba's status amongst many of his fellow pros rose when after he was spurned from the 2016 Ryder Cup by captain Davis Love not once but twice, he insisted he still wanted to go in any capacity, and was given a 5th assistant captains role, and became an integral part of that winning USA squad.
I felt badly for Alex Noren, who put on such a display of power and precision all week, he led the field in putting and opened everybody's eyes on this side of the Atlantic. He had the upper hand in the morning semi final vs Kisner in a terrific match which featured 4 holes halved with birdies, but he just started missing a few from inside 10 feet and Kisner hung in after he tied the match with an eagle on the 12th. Kisner won it on the 19th when Noren made a bogey 5.
Noren beat Justin Thomas 5&3 for 3rd place. Thomas by the way was sensational until he lost 3&2 to Bubba in the semi final when his putter went cold, much to his frustration.
So Bubba heads off on holiday for a week before he will re surface at Augusta, likely as the new favourite, which he will hate, to win his 3rd green jacket.
