Round two on the Montgomerie Maxx Royal golf course under ideal weather conditions at this plush resort in southern Turkey is in the books and it is South African Jaco Van Zyl who continues to lead following his opening 61, with a -3 69 to go into the weekend at -14, but now only two shots clear.
It's was a close race for 2nd in the early part of Friday with Van Zyl leading by 5 shots at -15 with both Lee Westwood and Chris Wood chasing at -10 with a whole gaggle at -9 and -8.
However with a couple of bogey's slowing his progress, he allowed the chasing pack back in. England's Richard Bland shot -7 65 -12 to grab 2nd place along with in form Chris Wood, 66.
Spaniard Fabrizio Zenotti with 67 66 is at -11 along with Frenchman and former champion Victor Dubuisson 64.
Rory McIlroy playing with a new ball and a new driver this week was -2 today through 10, but made 3 more birdies coming in, despite driving wildly into another unplayable lie on the 18th before scrambling for par and a -5 67 for -10 total. He is joined on that number by Alex Levy (65)
Lee Westwood missed a lot of putts that he made on Thursday but hung around for 71 -9 total along with Graeme McDowell who had a great day with -7 65, looking more like his old self.
