Goosen, Ishikawa lead Quicken Loans Classic in hot, humid Virginia

PGA Tour Quicken Loans Classic leaderboard http://espn.go.com/golf/leaderboard?tour=pga

Playing in hot humid conditions on the Robert Trent GC down in Gainesville Virginia, Retief Goosen, had a bogey-free 63 along with Ryo Ishikawa for the first round lead. Ernie Els and Justin Leonard and Kevin Chappell a shot back at -7, 64.

The Goose is finally feeling healthy after major back surgery in 2012 and he is playing much more like his old self recently having qualified for the Open Championship and the US Open which as you know he won twice.

Once the pinup boy of Japanese golf, Ishikawa made six birdies in a row starting on the 14th hole and added a hole-in-one on the 180-yard fourth, he played the back nine first...

I watched Tiger get to +3 through 4 holes, including a pulled hook into the gallery on the first and a 3 putt on the fourth. However it is a good story from there as he got in a groove and strung together five birdies in six holes for a -3 68.

As usual, soft conditions and little wind combined with players being allowed to lift, clean and place their golf balls on the soft fairways, resulted in 81 of them coming in below par. Rickie Fowler also made an ace in his -4 67, and bought everyone in the media center a beer..

Canadian scores:  Adam Hadwin who finished a fine T7 at the RBC Canadian Open also shot -4 67 T18 while Nick Taylor shot 68
