First top 10 for Svensson, Matsuyama wins the Sony Open... final scoreboard

PGA Tour : Sony Open final leaderboard here.

In the end it turned out to be a two horse race between Russell Henley and Hideki Matsuyama with the former running away with a front nine 29 for a 5 shot lead, however he faltered on the back for a +1 36, 65 opening the door for the Japanese Masters champion who had an unusually good week with his putter and closed with a birdie and an eagle (63) to catch Henley, who had a 10 footer to win on his 18th but just missed.

Matsuyama then duplicated the shot that won him the ZOZO Championship in 2021, this time a 3 metal from 277yds to within 2 feet on the first playoff hole for eagle and the win.

Adam Svensson did his best, a one bogey 67 T7th -17 good for his first top 10 PGA Tour finish and nearly $240,000 while Corey Connors started with 3 birdies on  his way to a -6 64 T11 -16 good for nearly $194,000.

This week it's the old Bob Hope Classic, now called the American Express at La Quinta, where Connors, Hadwin, Taylor, Svensson, Sloan, Pendrith and Gligic will all be in the field.
