He told us after a month of practice, rest and relaxation with his wife Kelly in Hawaii, he was in mid season form. Combine that with a course he won his first senior tour championship on, and you have Stephen Ames 66, 66 -12 tied for the lead in this version of the Mitsubishi Electric Championship.
He is joined by the legendary Ernie Els and the always leaning Vijay Singh looking for his first win in over 3 years.
Stephen looking tanned and relaxed seems in complete control of his game, driving and putting well on this strange looking lava strewn course in the posh Four Seasons Resort on the Big Island.
I expect him to be right there at the finish tomorrow.
Mike Weir is not in contention this week after posting 72 T26th at -3.
