Try as she may Brooke Henderson could only muster +1 73 in the opening round of the CME Group Tour Championship on a day when only 17 players were over par.
She made a bogey at the par 5 1st, had 4 bogey's in her first 13 holes, but she battled back with 3 birdies in her last 5 for a 39,34 73. She drove the ball well with 13/14 fairways and used 28 putts, but her greens in regulation was only 10/18.
In round 2 she is out in the early wave playing the back nine first.
The leader at -9 63 is Amy Olson. Nasa Hataoka and Brittany Lincicome are T2 -8 64. The Japanese star was the only one of 5 top seeds to threaten the lead. #1 Ariya Jutanugarn and #2 Minjee Lee shot 70's. #3 Brooke had to rally for her 73 while #5 Sung Hyun Park shot 71.
Olson set an NCAA record with 20 wins during her college career at North Dakota State. Lexi Thompson opened with -7 65. Lydia Ko a -2 69.
