Day 2 wrap BMW PGA Championship..36 hole results....

DP World Tour: BMW PGA Championship  Leaderboard

Ryan Gerard carded a brilliant bogey-free round of 65 to take a two-shot lead into the weekend at the BMW PGA Championship.

Big finish sends Ryan Gerard flying into halfway lead at Wentworth

The American (who once flew from California to Mauritius to finish 2nd to South African Jayden Schaper), and get enough points to qualify for the Masters, had put himself in the mix with an opening 67 and remained in touch with the leaders as he picked up four birdies in 13 holes on Friday at Wentworth Club.

He was one shot off the lead as he entered the West Course's famous pair of par-five finishers but went eagle-birdie to get to -12 and leap ahead of nearest challengers Filippo Celli and Adam Scott at -10

US PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai was then at -9 alongside Spaniard Manuel Elvira, with Major champions Rory McIlroy, Ryan Fox and JJ Spaun a further shot back -8 with Ross Fisher and Elvira's brother Nacho for company.

Gerard earned DP World Tour status by winning last season's Barracuda Championship and finished in a tie for 38th in his debut at this Rolex Series event last season.

He has finished a runner-up four times since, including three events in a row as 2025 turned into 2026, and arrived in England at a career-high 21st on the Official World Golf Ranking as he looks to maintain momentum in a truly global schedule.

"I just love playing golf," he said. "The DP World Tour is a great tour and we're lucky to have fantastic events like this one that I can come play in what would technically be the off-season on the PGA Tour.

"There's a lot of really awesome places outside of the United States that we don't get to go to very often. To be lucky enough to come over here to Wentworth and also go to France next week, other events on the schedule, it's really, really cool that I have that opportunity, and we're going to take advantage of it."

On his 65, he added: "I don't know if I was feeling an eagle-birdie finish but I stayed patient all day.

"You know when you get to the last couple of holes at Wentworth here, they are gettable. There's also trouble lurking, so you have to be careful. Just felt like we were putting the ball in the right spots all day. Good things happen when you stick to the plan and execute shots."

SUMMARY

Manuel Elvira turned in 34 with three birdies and two bogeys but made five gains on the back nine to fly up the leaderboard with a 66 of his own, while home hero Rai, recorded a birdie-birdie finish in a 69.

McIlroy and Fox were playing alongside Rai in a group comprised of three reigning Major champions and they both matched their playing partner's birdie-birdie finish as they carded rounds of 67 and 68 respectively.

Spaun signed for a 66, Fisher rolled back the years with a 67 and Nacho Elvira registered a 69 to sit a shot ahead of Matt Wallace.

There were then 11 players at -6 including defending champion Alex Noren, Ryder Cup star Sepp Straka and recent winner Joe Dean.

Day 1 wrap... Rai / Lagergren lead BMW PGA Championship.... Friday TEE TIMES/ Leaderboard

DP World Tour: BMW PGA Championship  Leaderboard

Aaron Rai was alongside Joakim Lagergren at the top of a high-class leaderboard after day one of the BMW PGA Championship.

Aaron Rai and Joakim Lagergren on top at Wentworth

The third Rolex Series event of the season brought bumper crowds and an elite field to Wentworth Club and it was US PGA Championship winner Rai who delighted the home crowds with a 66.

The Englishman carded seven birdies and a single bogey to get to -6 where he was joined by Swede Lagergren, who recorded an eagle, five birdies and a single dropped shot.

Swede Ludvig Ã…berg, former Masters champion Adam Scott, in-form American Ryan Gerard and Spaniard Nacho Elvira were a shot off the lead -5, one clear of a group of 12 players including Race to Dubai Rankings leader Patrick Reed, Open Champion Ryan Fox and Ã…berg's fellow Ryder Cup stars Viktor Hovland and Robert MacIntyre all -4

Masters champion Rory McIlroy was then in a large group at -3 on a congested leaderboard.

Rai was part of a marquee three-ball containing McIlroy and Fox as he looks for a third Rolex Series title at an event where he has finished in the top five for the last three seasons.

"Really pleased overall," he said. "Conditions were pretty tricky. We had a lot of rain during that warm up. But by the time it started, the wind had stopped, so that helped to start really well.

"I felt like I got into the round fast and got a couple of birdies early on and continued to just play well throughout the round and keep the momentum going when I was out of position.

"So, yeah, really good. Really good start."

A winner at the 2018 Rocco Forte Sicilian Open, Lagergren lost his card in 2023 but won twice on the HotelPlanner Tour the following year to bounce straight back.

"Scored really well today so I'm happy with that," he said. "I feel like I wasn't at my best today, if that's OK to say after a minus six, but I feel like I have still work to do.

"You always want to improve, and as often in this sport, it's hard to have five hours of good shots out there. You always want to get those bad shots to be a bit better.

"I feel like the bad shots were pretty decent today, which I like. But obviously, it wasn't a hundred per cent. But it never is really."

SUMMARY

Big finishes were the order of the day for Ã…berg and Elvira, with the Ryder Cup star birdieing his last three holes after making a double on the 15th, while Elvira birdied four of his last five.

Australian Scott made five birdies in his first 11 holes before a bogey-birdie finish and Gerard recorded six birdies and a single bogey.

American pair Davis Bryant and Johannes Veerman, German duo Freddy Schott and Nicolai von Dellingshausen, Belgian Thomas Detry, Dane Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, Frenchman Antoine Rozner and Italy's Filippo Celli completed the top ten in the group at -4.
