PGA Tour, Tour Championship final scoreboard https://www.pgatour.com/competition/2017/tour-championship/leaderboard.html
The curtain has come down on the final Sunday of the 2016-17, and as in all great plays, the star of the show took the final bow, and this year it was 24 year old phenom from Louisville Kentucky, Justin Thomas.
With a final round -4 66 he finished the Tour Championship 2nd, a shot behind the winner, 23 year old Xander Schauffele who barely made a two foot birdie at the last for -2 68 to cap off his Rookie of the Year season.
The 2nd place finish for Thomas was good enough to edge Jordan Spieth for the Cup and the $10m bonus, not to mention the $945,000 in prize money.
In review, Thomas who's father and grandfather were golf pro's, had a simply historic year. He won 5 times starting with the CIMB Classic in Malaysia last fall, then back to back wins in Hawaii, the PGA Championship, and a playoff win in Boston. He also shot that record tying 63 in the US Open and will win the Player of the Year award.
Like so many young guys he referred to his smart phone in his press conference where he ticked off 12 of the 15 goals he set for himself before the year started, mighty impressive for this young gun who will now lead the US President's Cup team into action this coming Thursday.
His career earnings were at $15m coming into the week, now at $26m and counting, he will be ranked #4 in the world as of tomorrow morning.
Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., shot a 70 to finish +1 23rd.
A word about Paul Casey, who led by 2 at the start of play. He went out in 38, as his putter deserted him, closed with at +3 73 -9 in 5th place. His bitter disappointment at another 4th round flop will be assuaged as he has flown home last night to be with his wife and their brand new baby daughter.
