After his stunning 2nd place finish last week at the KLM Open in Holland, young Canadian, Austin Connelly has shot 70 72 +1 including a disappointing double bogey 6 at the last to miss the cut, projected to fall at -2 at the sunny Portugal Masters, on a course known as The Victoria, right on the Mediterranean in the Algarve, where they boast over 300 days of sunshine a year.
Austin earned European Tour status after making the cut at 2017 Qualifying School Final Stage and made a strong start to his Tour career with a T9 finish at the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth earlier this season.
He is currently ranked 199 in the world, but is 71st in the Race to Dubai, with 3 top ten finishes in 12 events, worth around $488,000.
Round 2 is well underway, with the afternoon wave just setting out. Denmark's Lucas Bjerregaard currently leading at -10, with Eddie Pepperell, George Coetzee and Shane Lowry all at -9.
